James McClean refusing to wear poppy on shirt

If McClean was an intelligent, politically motivated person (or even gave that impression, I'd say it'd be different - but to me he seems thick as **** and he was simply following the majority (from his own community) - its not about respect, its about tribalism.

Its his right to do what he wants, but if I was him I'd have just worn it...Saying he doesn't support the troops because of Bloody Sunday is like someone saying they hate the idea of Republicanism because of the actions of the CIRA (who lets not forget murdered an innocent man little more than 2 weeks ago). Every section of society has its idiots and its mistakes!

 

Bailed at the minute until 4th March (pending further investigation), I now know the same copper, who is a local lad and knows somebody I know, lets his mouth run away and told our mutual friend whilst playing squash about a certain dealer who was going to get busted (and also a friend of our mutual friend), our mutual friend then rang the lad, police busted and surprise surprise, nothing found.

Another lad I am friendly with has just served a 12 year jail sentence for kidnapping two coppers at gunpoint, in Gateshead in 1999. He terrorised them on Christmas morning putting a gun in their mouths and watched them cry and urinate themselves. Sounds totally uncalled for doesn't it.

The story behind this one though is that earlier in the year these two coppers got the lad 6 month jail for something he didn't do, completely innocent and was set up by them 100%. The lad had never been in any serious trouble with the law and was done by the system. He told me when he got sent down the two coppers smirked in the dock and he told them he would get out one day and they would be sorry. The day he got out (Christmas eve), he went looking for them, found them and the rest is history. Now that's what I call somebodys life being totally ruined by the system, he has lost years (admittedly through his own stupidity), but you can understand in some way what drove him to this.

It's an emotive subject. When judging the guy remember that he's from an area where 14 people were 'murdered' by some of the very people today is about... It's a personal decision for people to make and each personal decision should be respected. For some people wearing one recognises soldiers that have committed some nasty acts over the years and therefore it's not something they wish to do whereas the vast majority of people choose to wear one.

 

The Taliban expect all men to grow beards as a mark of respect for Allah. You seem to share their ideals on what freedom is. Your'e an idiot.

Really sorry to hear what is happening to you mate.

I've had various run-ins with the coppers over the years, and picked up a bit of legal stuff on the way.

A mate of mine once got six months in prison for something he didn't do. It wasn't a mistake by the police, they knew he was innocent. I was there and saw what happened. The lad was just naive and didn't think the pèolice were that bad and ended up inside for his troubles.

I know solictors cost, but getting some basic legal advice is a must. And if they try to question you again on 4th March, use your rights of silence. The coppers are so arrogant that this step always sets them back, plus the ONLY reason they would question you is to get eveidence to do you. Don't give them the chance!

BTW, sorry if you've already done this and I come across as patronising, that's not my intention, just trying to help in my little way.
