Jon actually called it a horrible challenge, I tend to trust his judgement .

Enjoyed listening on hornet player and I'm enjoying the deluded rants of the Leeds fans on there thread almost as much. My favorite being how the ref had the nerve to play all 10 minutes of stoppage time and that he should be sacked. I also like the comment "All I can say is it's a good job Watford Wa **** cos other teams would have got double figures".

At the risk of sounding a cynic(!) & not suggesting anyones getting just a little carried away by one result today ....but 'such exciting matches' Flitton ? Have you seen the home record this season ?Surely cant have been 'unlucky' in that many matches.

Not getting carried away but we are yet to get to that point where teams squads get exposed to the number of games in a season. We made 5 changes today and won (level of win exceptional admittedly). How many other teams have the depth of squad we have? None. Do not underestimate that as the season goes on.

Having watched Leicester last Saturday when i lost count of the many occassions we had a man over on attack but didn't convert against a team who threw on strikers and "went" for it that seemed a pretty exciting match and well worth the addmission price, followed today by a game were from early on we looked very capable of scoring every time we attacked until we played the final ball but still ended up scoring 6, i would say yes it is very exciting watching Watford at the moment but as i said we are no where near the finished articule and am not suggesting it will lead to anything. Im not getting carried away just enjoying what is played before me Oldnick :) as for that home record lets just hope its work in progress shall we?

"Hornets manager Gianfranco Zola has assembled a side largely made up of players borrowed from Udinese but, regardless of their origin, they clearly have more than enough ability to make an impression in the Championship"

The above comes from the Yorkshire Post. In their match report they do not cast any doubt over the refs decision to send the player off and say that the Watford forwards were just too fast for their defence.

There still seems to be the illusion amongst some of the fans that they are one of the big clubs, although others are now thinking more about staying up than getting promoted.

I would have to say that Leeds were unfortunate today. Warnock made a gamble by trying to change things when they were down to 10. Then they loose a player to a serious injury. It could happen to anyone. We have to remember that we played against 9 players for the second half. If they had had 10 or 11 the result would doubtless be different. Yes we played very well against 9, we had to create the chances and score them. But if you dont put the opponent to the sword in that situation then we should be worried. Lets use the momentum to get some points against Wolves.

On the downside Almen Abdi was rushed to hospital with a dislocated shoulder. However he did travel back on the coach with the others.

I guess Leeds were unfortunate but then it was their bloke who got himself sent off and ofcourse we wish Austin well but its just sods law for Warnock trying to change the game at half time with a bold move that the injury then happened.

We certainly took advantage and scored some cracking goals.

Good to see we have a squad that are ready and willing to perform when they are brought in and I think the fact Yeates/Murray and Deeney scored goals proves we aren't just relying on the loan players who might be ours come January.

Then I suppose we'll get criticised for having overseas players in the team.

We were good today, despite the 2 man advantage in the second half. Colin took a gamble and lost big time, which was rather good to see, though obviously i hope poor Austin makes a quick recovery. The red card looked harsh from where we were sitting, but seeing it just now on the football league show, i've changed my view..and Leeds can blame themselves for being down to 10. We've been there, and down to 9, and we managed to hold Cardiff almost to the end..Leeds couldn't do it...shows how good we really can be, imo. There were some very impressive perfomances but none more than Vydra, who really should be starting and seeing the end of his time on the bench, please Mr Zola! Anya is quick, there's no doubt about it, but he doesn't know what to do with the ball once he's 2/3s of the way up the pitch and when he takes it near the box, he's completely lost. Almunia didn't have much to do but did it effectively, and is constantly shouting from his line to the team, hopefully words of encouragement! Abdi was having a good game, he's been strong in the last few games and hopefully he'll be back soon. Hoban did well again, though was a little quieter than of late, though it could be said he just didn't have so much to do. Doyley was solid as ever, and i really don't get why the Leeds commentators had a problem with him...anyone know? He just did what Doyley does, and didn't let anyone get forward...he even had a great shot at goal which unfortunately was blocked, that would have made it a perfect afternoon! lol. The 680 fans were on top form, and the ever zealous stewards of Elland Road just couldn't get an answer to the jeering fans at the back who, when told to sit down, started chanting about the wall not being able to see. Gotta love banter.

A great afternoon, and though we won't get carried away, there were some very positive signs again, including 6 excellent goals!

    Yep!

:emoticon-0159-music:emoticon-0159-music: sit down, so the wall can see, sit down. So the wall can see sit down.:emoticon-0159-music:emoticon-0159-music:emoticon-0169-dance:emoticon-0140-rofl:

It was also a joke that I could not take my flag, which I have taken to every game since spurs last season and had no problems, in as it was a fire hazzard. Bloody jobsworths!!!!!

Just watched it on TFLS and enjoyed every last second of it save for the horrendous tackle on Vydra (RC every time no ifs, no buts) and the unfortunate injury to Austin. We scored some cracking goals, 9 men or not it wasn't like we were walking the ball in. Even their goal was comedy gold, just don't do it again eh fellas!

10mins added time? A broken leg and dislocated shoulder to deal with as a minimum that sounds about right.

    6-1 Who'd've thunk it! :1980_boogie_down:

Daniel. you must have still been tempted to issue the Referee with a disciplinary at the end of the game....he gave a penalty to the other team

Just watched the Football League Show. After starting the game with 5 changes from the team who faced Millwall, I particularly enjoyed Manish Bhasin's statement, "it certainly seems Gianfranco Zola is finding his starting 11".

Given our incredible strength in depth, I think Zola has actually finally found his starting 76. It is great to see so many players who are more than capable of lighting up the Championship. It has been a trait of Watford FC to struggle at the back end of the season, having to cope with injuries and suspensions, relying on back-up's who just don't quite do it. It looks like we aren't going to get to this, meaning promotion is a genuine target.

When we get the bad press over our "dubious" loan signings as a result of the "dodgy" Italian owners, it is fantastic to see the players play with such pride. They want to play for Watford and are enjoying every second of it. I think, secretly, every fan wishes they had the opportunities Watford now have.

Just a couple of final comments on yesterday.

Pleased that the crowd were so well behaved before the kick off during the silence.

Good to hear that as the Leeds player was carried off, our manager and players applauded him.

Taken from a Leeds forum: "Watford's shooting was incredible! Way above Championship quality"

And then there was this little gem from another plonker "....but by all accounts the sending off should not have happened, especially not at home."

Little wonder they have a reputation for being dirty - they apparently think that they are untouchable at home, the laws of the game don't apply there!
