This is what I want to hear. Now let's get behind MON and give him the backing he deserves. MARTIN OâNeill says he knows how to turn Sunderlandâs fortunes around, and is determined to do it. The manager believes hard work in training and steadfast faith in his players will produce a team Wearside can be proud of. This afternoon Sunderland face Everton for the first time since OâNeillâs record at the club took a turn for the worse. While his job is not under threat, a 21-game sequence featuring just one win over top-flight opposition has led to greater scrutiny of OâNeill. He was ready for it yesterday. âItâs my ambition â task â to put a real side out and I know how to do that,â he insisted. âBy hook or by crook I intend to make this team one the supporters are genuinely proud of and feel as if they have a chance of competing. âI do have, I think, a little bit of spirit, plenty of determination and a load of enthusiasm. It would mean a lot to me to make this a fairly decent football club. Iâve got a lot of self-belief not to be knocked off course here by a couple of results. âIâll put everything into it and Iâve got absolutely no doubt itâll be good. âIf this situation continues when weâre just treading water or are in serious difficulty every year, well, Iâm sorry, whatâs the point me doing it? Whatâs the point? You could get anybody else in to do it. âI intend to try to change it, but it will not happen overnight. The greatest living manager in the game (Manchester Unitedâs Sir Alex Ferguson, pictured right) has had 26 years at Old Trafford and he will tell you. âBy the same token, I donât want Sunderland supporters to be waiting a decade for it! âEven if weâd eked out a victory against Aston Villa (last week) we could still have a really tough time. âEssentially weâre still not able to compete at the very top level â weâre not up there with the Evertons. But thatâs what we should be aspiring to.â History suggests OâNeillâs is a hard task, but that he is up to it.
I like his spirit, i just hope Mr Short is prepared to back MON's ambitions, if he is then i see great times ahead.
Hard work in training and faith in his players hasn't worked so far lads let's hope it clicks today and we go on a nice little unbeaten run for a few games especially the ones at home. KTF etc.
i really feel like its only a lucky bounce or an own goal away from turning the corner! the players need to grow a pair and start going for it, catts has been top notch this season just wish everyone else would take a leaf out of his book.. we have a great chance of turning up today lads lets have a go!!!
we just need to catch a break to turn this around. remember o'neill's first game, both vaughan's shot and larsson's free kick could have missed, 9 times out of ten they would have, but they didn't and all of a sudden we had momentum.
Think a bit of momentum would be great at the minute and, as you both say just that little bit of luck or dare I say skill to get us going can't be too far off.
MON out if we dont? You cant doubt that MON is a quality manager, his record speaks for itself. First manager we have had in quite some time that I am confident can build something good at this club given time. MON had rough patches at Leicester and Villa and pulled them through. I expect the same here. We cannot go around sacking managers left right and center. It wont work, and we'll scare the good players off (as well as the managers)
so you expect him to turn us into a top side without even having a full season in charge? 2 half seasons dont really mean anything in the long run
Billy have you nothing better to do than follow posts and write crap about MON, seriously go and knock one out or something!
you need to give your head a shake pal ... its no wonder peeps are not joining and posting in this forum
Eh? Billy your going on ridiculous! Maybe if you sucked a cock you'd feel better. Sure Tash it TTT would oblige!
