Just thought I'd bring up this topic, there's a few areas of East Yorkshire that I can honestly say, I've never been to. Me and the missus are thinking of moving out away from the City and into a town somewhere with the kids. We were looking at houses available and we were really intrigued with some of the local areas. We went right to the Eastern Coast and did a 'Holderness Tour', we went from Bridlington to Hornsea, then to Withernsea and back through the villages on the way to Hull such as Keyingham, Ottringham, Preston and Thorngumbald.
We were considering a move to Withernsea, found a nice house for a decent price and the School's just recently had some new development with a new modern Building and everything, so the kid's are sorted.

I have never been to ANY of these areas before.

So am I the only one or do I have fellow Holderness virgins? <laugh>

Sorry to say this, but I think Withernsea is an absolute ****hole. Being honest I think Middlesbroughs better, and that's bad.

Went to sunk island for the first time a couple of years ago, was expecting some nice geological anomaly, turns out to be a very flat crossroads in the middle of very flat farmland where some bint wrote some books, drove through once without noticing, disappointed.
Stoney creek down the 'road' is far more impressive.

Witherensea is where people go to die, what are they doing wasting money doing up a school ?

We're not definitely moving there at all! I maybe should have re-worded how I said that. We liked the house and School, that's all <laugh>

EDIT: We're more likely to find another house in Kirkella, or even end up moving to Leicester to be closer to my old man. Saves me travelling there on a regular basis.

ive peddled around most of east yorks (in a bikey sense - not as a pusher lol) and ive gotta agree on Wiv' it is probably the worst place as a percentage in the county . . . Brid' would be next in my take on dumps per person , another place of woe i would avoid if i wasnt going to the beach :/ .

I've lived in East Yorkshire now for 21 years and I've never been to the Withernsea to Patrington area. Withernsea was once described to me as somewhere you don't go to unless you need to. I think that perhaps sums it up!

My job has had me drive the route Easington to Bridlington (all the back roads and villages inbetween) and I must admit to quite liking Hornsea . I would seriouslyi consider working from our depot out there but the price of fuel getting me out there and back knocks that one on the napper . Withernsea is a strange old place and hard to describe with the locals seeming very insular . As you drive through it's as if you don't exist the locals either looking at their feet as they plod along or anywhere but making eye contact with you .Almost get a sense of the whole gaff and its population being the victim of abuse .

There's some parts of Hull that I have never been to as an adult.

Last time up,Barnsley, I stayed the Friday night in Scarborough. The drive to Hull was interesting in a way. For the very first timeI actually saw places that I wouldn't mind moving to.

For me Holderness is very boring - much prefer living in Hull - if I were to move and thats very very unlikely now - the west Hull villages (and I dont mean Willerby Anlaby Hessle Kirkella and Cott) are very appealling but Withernsea oh no..

Withernsea is not a place I would chose, and I think the fact that you have found a house reasonable price speaks volumes, because no one want to live there. Winter is a nightmare, desolate and I remember playing football there near the lighthouse, it was the coldest place I have ever played. Avoid by all means in my opinion

Is it Withernsea or Bridlington that keeps cropping up on the news because another street is about to fall into the sea?
