While he might do well for them there are 2 points that are screaming out that are not positive...

    1. Players (or managers) returning to a former club, seldom work out very well

    2. What? Another loan player?

Head in my hands time if I was a binner!

Just to give you lot a bit more clarity around this. Wellens and Henderson are both loaned until this weekend (I believe) therefore our domestic loan tally drops to 4 (allowed 5) plus DJ and Mohnsi are views to permanent and we will either put up or get rid come the 1st week in January, leaving even more gaping gaps in our squad.

As for Wickham.. I didn't quite get all the clamour around him, he's a big strong lad with all the physical attributes to be a class player if coached right, he was making good progress with us and you felt that this season would have been his 'coming of age' or 'dark side of the moon' if you will. But as with a lot of decent prospects they disappear unnoticed at big clubs when they would have been far wiser to continue their education further down the football pyramid. I dare say he would take like a duck to water in the championship (as this is where he is in his development....or atleast he was when we sold him) If we take him back it will be interesting to see how he does because there is potential for a great player there (his international record would back this up)

I do feel a wee bit for them. How many years ago was it when we were there and it was bloody painful.
Still it is all part of the rebuilding process and a good thing it was for us in the medium term.

Ironically, yes it was. Apart from getting promotion under Worthy and finishing 3rd in 1993 under Mike Walker, getting relegated under Rodent/Gunn was one of the few plus points we've had in recent years.

Not in the short term, although it didn't do us any real harm attendances wise, but in that it forced the club into a root and branch evaluation of where we were at - and more importantly, how to structure and work to a proper business model so we could bounce back all the stronger from that. <ok>

Yes he is, but can you name me 5 others that have succeeded the 2nd time round, say in the last 20 years? I can't think of any. Certainly any player or manager that has returned to Carrow Road has failed the 2nd time round (Fleck, Walker & Cureton).

I assume it is League 2, conference then out of existence all together on the parts of the "league" dice that we cannot see?

I seem to recall that Martin O'Neil had two spells with us, but I can't recollect as to whether his second stint was successful or not ?

    I don't actually Jwm,

I was just taking the michael!

I think you did well to prize £8m from Sunderland for Connor Wickham, it was too soon for him.

I think it might still come good for the lad but unfortunately the move came too soon for him and that has set him back. In fairness although he can't score for Sunderland at the moment nor can anyone else. My son, who is an Arsenal supporter, saw him in both legs of a league cup game against them a couple of years ago and said at the time that Wickham caused the defence as much trouble as any Premiership striker had done that season. Talking of Arsenal - my son got sent the cheapest ticket still available for their forthcoming match with Spurs - £90!! Apparently no seat cost less than £65.

At Norwich, I can think of Dion and Darel Russell, who played very well in our League One season. Elsewhere, Defoe's done well in his second spell at Spurs, Crouch at Portsmouth (he did play for them twice, right?), and Darren Ferguson, upon returning to Peterborough a couple of years ago, got them promoted almost instantly. That took me about a minute.

There's no reason why Wickham can't do well, as long as they offload a couple of other players first, which it appears they are.
