Yes, but they have the dynamic - and the US and Europe have declining economies/manufacturing bases. We still run a lot of the finance, but that will likely shift, too.

the BRIC countries now account for ~20% of the world economic output. 10 years ago it was 5%. so its true that they aren't in the ascendency yet but its coming. I think the USA and Germany grasp this but as for the rest of Europe...

Romney certainly grasped it - the companies that Bain Capital bought/leveraged and then closed down, often transferred their production to (e.g.) China, throwing employees out of work. And they thought Bain had stepped in to save them!!!

2011 ... US GDP was 19.1% of the World GDP, China was 14.3%. That's a bit better than half.

    UK - 2.9%
    Brazil - 2.9%
    Russia - 3.0%
    India - 5.7%

All bigger than (or equal to) the UK

Numbers are from the IMF 2012 report.

California alone would be 8th on your list.

Donald Trump seems to have taken the result well. :emoticon-0104-surpr

    http://uk.news.yahoo.com/comment/ti...ama-march-washington-054449245--election.html

Donald Trump, the impossibly coiffed real estate mogul and de facto leader of the "birther" movement, had something of a Twitter meltdown in the wake of President Barack Obama's projected victory in Tuesday's election.

"Well, back to the drawing board!" Trump tweeted shortly after several networks, including Fox News, called Ohio in the president's favor, sealing the win. "We can't let this happen. We should march on Washington and stop this travesty. Our nation is totally divided!"

Trump—who last month offered $5 million to a charity of Obama's choice in exchange for the release of the commander in chief's college records and passport application—continued his post-election rant in 140-character chunks:

Let's fight like hell and stop this great and disgusting injustice! The world is laughing at us.

This election is a total sham and a travesty. We are not a democracy!

Our nation is a once great nation divided!

Our country is now in serious and unprecedented trouble...like never before.

The electoral college is a disaster for a democracy.

"Barack Obama is the least transparent president in the history of this country," Trump said in a widely mocked October video shot from his New York office and uploaded to YouTube. "I'm very honored to have gotten him to release his long-form birth certificate or whatever it may be."

President Obama was unfazed. On "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno," Obama joked to Leno that the bad blood between him and the "Celebrity Apprentice" star "dates back to when we were growing up together in Kenya."

It appears the president saved his best zinger for Trump for Election Day.

Trump is completely insane. Unfortunately here in the US we seem to give these types of people air time. We have a few people like him that get national attention who were born without their marbles.

It's strange how our idiotic types have left the UK, gone over the pond and have got their own tv shows or tours in the US now. David "the Queen is a massive space Lizard" Icke and Piers Morgan (please keep him over there, we don't want him back) are just two examples.

What can we expect really? Half of Americans believe in demonic possession, that the earth is 6000 years old, and that trickle-down economics works. All I need to know about America I learned from Bill Hicks.

California contributes much more to US GDP than any other state and if it was a country, it would indeed be 8th.

It's not actually my list by the way, it's the IMF's.

Don't forget Jeremy Kyle. If they come for Richard Littlejohn and Clarkson I wouldn't mind either.
