My opinion has never changed on Simpson, as i've always rated the lad. He never really got a chance and when he did Pearson dropped him after scoring 4 in two games for the prolific Mclean. He's a young lad who finally seems to be settling/maturing after a very tough time. Fryatt is probably a more natural goal scorer but Simpson is a better all round player IMO.
A decent goal tonight (though he only got the chance because of poor defending), but otherwise ****ing shocking AGAIN. I swear the guy's got feet made of marshmallow.
I haven't read the rest of this thread but don't know if this is suppose to be sarcasm. but ****ing hell I hope your joking. Simpson was immense tonight, held the ball up well, linked in with the wingers and aluko with minimal support. Brilliant performance.
Its good for him and for us. Hopefully he gets on a roll and bags a few more then this post will have seemed pretty silly. Even if he does I still think we need to bring someone in especially with Aluko probably going to the africa cup of nations.
Even if he fails to score this season, I'm happier saying that I've supported him throughout rather than alternating between; "He needs some time in the reserves"/"He's absolutely appalling, not good enough for us" and "What a player! Could fire us to the Premier League"/"He's actually better than Fryatt" every single game. I should probably clarify that this isn't aimed at you.
You were correct about him, he is clearly better than some people thought. In the grand scheme of things his run of games has been pretty short hopefully he only gets better.
The thing with Simpson is that he already has proven he can score consistently in the Championship. I hope we can keep him for next season if his contract is up at the end of this one, not sure if it is or not. If we got promoted I would fancy him to score in the top league and also Aluko.
that's a very selective recollection. in 2010-2011 from august to december simpson played in 15 games without scoring (coming on as sub in about half) then he scored twice against bristol c then he scored twice against sheff u then he started 4 games without scoring. that doesn't sound to me like "never got a chance" simpson wasn't dropped for mclean. simpson started the first two games mclean played in. he may have been dropped for fryatt but fryatt scored 6 goals in his first 7 games for us and ended with 9 in 23. simpson played in 34 games and scored 6 goals. mclean had scored 14 at peterbro before he joined us though only added another 3 here. we were 15th when mclean arrived and ended up 11th.
I am just glad that we have got a decent manager to push simmo et al. imagine how prolific Fryatt will be under SB.
Does anyone know where I can see a replay of simmo's goal? Sky sports news showed every goal from every championship game, but with us it only showed aluko's free kick. Annoying
City goal from a striker playing ever so well. Great ball from Rosie and Simpsons shot clips the GK on the shoulder and goes in off the inside of the post. Dont see how Burnsie found that goal hard to explain at all actually. SSN showed it to be quality and class.
I'm looking forward to seeing that goal again on Player later, I can't believe he scored from that angle.
It was so unlucky for him that, in his first season it took so long for him to score, he then gets 4 in 2 games and he signed Mclean and Fryatt and he was pushed out then, poor management by Boring Nigel that was in my opinion, especially taking him out for Mclean...
I can categorically state it did NOT touch any player on its way in. It was helped in by some unknow force, maybe god. I'm going to church.
Pretty much nobody scored over that time. He was playing lone striker with no support - I remember saying in this period that he'd only had one real clear cut chance in 15 games - when he hit the post vs Preston away. This is the first real chance he's had in which he's played in front of a team likely to create enough chances for him. Safe to say he's taking them.
I thought Simpson and Aluko would be two of the top scorers in the league with 6 each but Charlie Austin is on 20 already. **** me. 20 goals after 3 months of the season. Insane.
i always hated the lone striker thing despite half the world telling me i don't understand football and 4-5-1 is really 4-3-3 and other crap like that.
