have a read of this lads there is some good points made... http://www.afootballforum.com/forum/index.php/topic/66250-martin-oneill-and-sunderland/ I have to say that I would not be surprised if our players hardly train, when I have seen them this season they all look absolutely shattered by the 70th minute mark. We all know MoN is very poor in the transfer market in the fact he is not adventurous or goes for skillful players at all but how do we solve this? Do we stick to the way MoN has done all through his career or do we go and get a director of football and do what Tottenham have done in having 4 people (manager, chairman, director of football, chief scout) working out the best style of play for there club, letting AVB coach the side and letting the others sort out the transfers, obviously AVB will have his say but its a european style of way to go about things rather than the usual manager telling the chairman who he wants but would MoN go along with that??? The point that really stuck with me was .... O'Neill is very good, but his stubbornness has perhaps stopped him being as good as he could have been ... I have to agree with this, the man's methods as far as transfers and the way he sets his team out have certainly been exposed this season and I can really see this being MoN's last job in Premier League management, you need to move with the times, look at Swansea, they have brought a young, fresh, modern manager into there club and they have done it the modern way and I have to say I have been very impressed by there signings an there attacking tactics and attacking substitutions. IMO its to late for MoN to change his ways an do what the fans crave in wanting some creativity in the middle of the park and build the platform from midle and attack teams. I think MoN still can do a good job here but I don't think we will reach the fans and the clubs ambition of being around those Europa League spots and thats because of his stubbornness
Like I have said for weeks now MON out! All the happy clappers who have called me fickle and embarrassing, a message to you lot. Your absolutely pathetic stubbornness for a mans 'past record' is holding our club back and will probably, ultimately, send us down. There's no signs of any improvement and I still say 14m for Fletcher is ridiculous. O'Neill is a caveman when it comes to football so get rid of him now.
A caveman? Im not happy with the performances however that is a bit blunt. He has won trophies in years gone past but even disregarding that he had Villa finish 6th year on year up until 2010 so unless football was a cavemans sport up until 2010 and then suddenly changed miraculously over the last 2yrs then he still has some evidence of building a quality team in the recent past. I'll stick with him and the team at the moment as a couple of good results especially this early on can change the look of the league dramatically and if that makes me a pathetic happy clapper then so be it.
Martinez Poyet Di Canio All young foreign managers, who play nice attractive but also purposeful football. We've done the tried and tested with Bruce and O'Neill, it hasn't really got us anywhere. The game has moved on and we need a modern manager, a manager who also has knowledge of foreign leagues and players. Which CM currently playing the Premier league or Championship do you think O'Neill should sign to sort out our problems? Cos I can sure as hell guarantee it won't come from abroad and like Fletcher, O'Neilll won't care how much money he wastes and will again pay double the real value.
I think we need to go down the route Swansea have and bring a young, enthusiastic, modern attacking manager into the club. I am not sure if there is anyone overseas who would fit that role perfectly but Roberto Martinez or even Laudrupp at Swansea would be my two choices
I think it's unlikely that your manager is getting sacked for starters, but it's even more unlikely that your owner who seems to be a sound businessman, would take a gamble on a Poyet or Di Canio type manager if your club are struggling, despite their potential. If O'Neill goes this season you'll end up with Desperate 'Arry. Probably should have got Jol in instead of giving Bruce a 5 year contract extension...Niall Quinn.
Hello Terry, that's all in hindsight mate. Were you judging Sir Niall there? That's what we need to do though, take a gamble. Bruce and O'Neill tried and tested, didn't take us anywhere. Young foreign manager, I say.
Hi mate, I'm not a fan of Niall, often get picked off for slating him on here...wonder why! My gripe with him after his playing days is that I just didn't believe he knew what he was doing and I found it disturbing that he made a beeline for the fans when things were going wrong for Bruce. Instead of sacking Bruce for an awful finish to your season a couple of years back he went and rewarded him by giving him a new 5 year contract extension. That kind of thing you'd expect from Venky's but not at your place, you're one of the better run football clubs I'd say.
Do you think he would leave WBA for us? Do you really think he is that much of an improvement on what we have? (that's an honest question cos I've seen very little of him to make judgement)
I honestly think he's the most underrated player in the league. Noticed him v Man United last season (maybe season before), and he dictated play for long periods, he influences the game, he is quick (very quick) with the ball, and he plays lovely first touch stuff. He's a smashing player, I think he'd be a fantastic player for us linking the wingers & Catts to Fletch. He's the player Gardner should be, Gardner has similar qualities, but lacks the mental aspect to impose himself on the game.
To be fair though he did exactly this at Celtic with Stilian Petrov. He may have another up his sleeve.
Nice 1 Do you think he would come though? Remember me telling you about my mate Chris who has played under Tiesto in Holland? He just made me a couple of cracking CD's, is they anyway to upload them on here ?
