It was a red all day long, you can't go round trying to maim people. My point about Suarez in that instance was that he didn't actually get kicked. Yet he rolled around like someone had taken a shotgun to his knee. No excuses for Colo but you can't just ignore Suarez's propensity to make a meal out of things. People don't like it but the likes of him and Jonas are always going to dive. Its been part of their football education, that is very difficult to change. In South American countries they are actually taught how to do it, it is just not viewed as an evil in the game. More gamesmanship. Its a bad fit with our game, hence the furore. I think Suarez went down easy a few times. Slightest contact and he's falling. But he is not alone and you only have to listen to Kyle Walker the other week "if I get touched I'm going down". I don't think him diving and having a good game are mutually exclusive. I felt he went down easy a number of times (as did Jonas), but I also think he was outstanding and unplayable at times. I rate Colo as one of the best in the league and he had a torrid time.
To be fair WP that's the way he always plays brilliant but, still a diving cheating get. Maybe this is why he doesn't get the real fouls committed on him as refs think he is diving. If he can temper that side of his game he will do well over here.
He's top class. I watched him a bit in Holland and as you can imagine he tore up that league. its just the way he is though and I can't see him changing. He was a hated man in Holland by all except Ajax fans. Just one of those controversial guys who'll always divide opinion. I think most would secretly admit that they'd be happy to have him. A bit like Bellamy.
I think the longer he stays here the less fouls he will get. Ref's are only human and even though state they remain impartial despite media coverage if Suarez/Bale goes down or Cattermole fouls someone then unfortunately reputations proceed them and whether it be subliminal or not the ref's are affected. Ive seen numerous genuine fouls Suarez has suffered this season not given, more then likely due to his rep, however live by the sword die by the sword - Zero sympathy.
Suarez shouldn't have been available for the Newcastle game, he should have been suspended for trying to snap Distin's ankle. The ref booked him and you can't change a yellow to a red post game, apparently it's in the rules. Well the rules need changed because as far as I can see Liverpool benefitted from having somebody on the pitch who should have been suspended. Make no mistake about it, Suarez on Distin was a disgusting and pathetic challenge which was far worse than Coloccini's tackle on Suarez. All you hear from the bindippers is how we pay the ref to win games/trophies at United...
Its bonkers how if a player receives a yellow card then he is effectively given immunity from further punishment. However a player who did not receive a booking can be charged and banned at a later date. All that was brought in for, was a show of support for the referees but it is ridiculous and needs changed.
