Coloccini will now be out for three league games, although he will be able to play in the two upcoming Europa League Group D games, and Alan Pardew is again down to a skeleton squad, after losing Perch, Ba and Cisse yesterday to injury, and we only have two fit center-backs now with Colo out and James Perch injured.

The news today is that James Perch’s thigh injury is serious, and he will be out for some weeks, and that’s a blow to Newcastle given that Perchinho can play anywhere along the back four and in defensive midfield too.

But it’s good news regarding Yohan Cabaye and Demba Ba, and both have a chance to make the next game at home against West Ham next Sunday – that’s a big relief.

This is what Alan Pardew said about the injuries:

“Perch is a bad one and I think that’s going to be costly for us. I should perhaps have taken Demba Ba off at half-time, but we wanted to see how he went and that was no good, but hopefully he’ll be all right for next weekend.”

“Cabaye has a slight strain, and to come here and lose three players through injury is obviously disappointing. It was asking a lot of the players that came on in an emotional game like that.”

“It’s an emotional place, and it was hurly-burly with it all going off in various parts of the pitch. So I was really pleased with the subs, I thought they all did very well.”

There’s no doubt that Sammy Ameobi and Shane Ferguson are making a big push for the first team, and both didn’t look out of place at all when they came on yesterday, and the experience they will have gained yesterday will stand them in very good stead.

It’s bad news on James Perch but good news on the other two, although we did wonder why Demba Ba came off after only 4 minutes after the second half, but it seems he didn’t want to make things worse – and that’s good.

I don't think Ba's injury is serious. I think it was just precautionary.

they will all miss the west ham game and to be honest its not a bad idea - if we rush them back and lose them for a month its a mistake.
