Morning all That was an enjoyable game and the first 20 minutes or so was the sweetest football seen at the Vic for some years. The movement off the ball and speed of passing suggests the technical work in training is paying off. As always we then took our foot off the gas for a while and LCFC began to get more possession without looking too threatening. Hoban and Doyley were excellent in defence. Cassetti found more space down the right than usual and Leicester failed to exploit any space behind him. Hogg was combative but Chelaboah looked his age, outstanding quality on the ball early on but tired in the second half. Deeney has added a real physical element to his game so that two big defenders found him a real handfull and his touch and control have improved beyond measure. Abdi is a wonderful passer of the ball, often seeming to find a target when under extreme pressure. Forestieri's trickery is great to watch and it generally takes two defenders to stop him. Sometimes he over-elaborates and we certainly failed to turn 3/4 dangerous breakaways into scoring chances yesterday. Pudil has a very good left foot and I'm sure will score a goal or two before the season's out. Finally Hall and Almunia show their experience...calm and in control and not making many mistakes. Looking at Arsenal's goalkeeping options now I think they might have got rid of the wrong man!
Could not agree more Theo, especially regarding Denney, Doyley and Chelaboah. Deeney seems have added so much to his game and Doyley looks a completely different player. Clearly Chelaboah is a hugely talented player but he does fade as the first half comes to an end, I cannot make my mind up if it is fitness and strength or concentration, but hopefully it will come and he will be effective in the last minutes or a game as he is in the first few games.
Managed to see this gem from the Leicester section of this site... "What i meant was more like - If we can't beat Watford with the peformance Watford had then it is a very poor show. Watford were poor yesterday - what does that make out performance" I have a new No.1 funniest and most inacurate post I have ever seen on a forum. Congratulations MoultonFox, that will take some shifting.
Clubs like Leicester do seem to expect to easily beat us away from home. I think its because they do at home...
Only heard radio commentry but sounded like a fully deserved win for you lot. For any that watched the match, where we as poor as we sounded on the radio?
Having watched the highlights several times now, I have to ask if GFZ understands anything at all about the traditions of Watford. Both goals were scored as a result of passing the ball around between players. Doesn't he realise that with this sort of play we will lose our hoofball reputation?
A bit surprised by the pace of our start, Freddy. After the first 20 minutes or so there was more midfield possession but not much threat up front. Centre backs looked powerful but slow on the turn, wide men inclined to complain when they were beaten in the tackle. Nugent spent a fair bit of time grumbling at the ref and at his own players. To be truthful, the performance lacked conviction.
Sounds about right. We've been off the pace the last few games, not sure why. Mind you we always seem to lose at yours, it's becoming a bit of a bogey ground.
Congratulations Watford I was sure we would lose this, I predicted 2-1 on our board! So are you happy with how Zola is doing? I always thought Forestieri was a good player, surely too good for this level? How has he been? Like I said before, you are my Championship team pick so at least I got some points from you to soften the blow of us losing ha!
