Should Jackson be our captain or not? I think The Doctor has a big decision to make here. It's quite a while since JJ had a good game; today he failed to chase a pass he could probably have caught, instead waving his arm and shouting at the team-mate who passed the ball, turning his back on the ball as well. Not a very good example to set, especially since he was anonymous most of the game. The vice captain is Taylor, who was dropped even before he was injured, Danny Hollands has lost form, so Morrison would be next in line. But my own choice would be a 5'3" player.
Two problems with that. If he took the responsibility to heart (as he probably would) and we continue to struggle, it might mess up his game, which is one of the few things going right for us. The other thing is, you need someone who has some tactical knowledge, especially if they are going to have to boss much older and more experienced players. I don't know if he has that. He may have. He is tops at reading the game in his own little zone, not sure if can read the whole field. Perhaps he can. The natural captain would be Fuller if he could stay fit. He was directing players in the matches he started and they were responding. If he is in and out of the team then we would have to look to Morrison. Not ideal as he is a bit hot-headed but hopefully he will mature. We should have sold Stephens and bought a quality, experienced defensive midfielder who would also be captain. To last us a couple of years until Poyet comes through.
I'm not so sure 5.3 is our man. I don't think I'd want to pile the pressure of captaincy on our only in form player. I'm a big Morrison fan but if not, kermit or Fuller have seen it all. Anyone but Hamer who has the intelligence of a chair.
I think Jackson is well liked by the players. I don't think being captain means you should be first name on the sheet. Morrison would do a job, I also think fuller would do quite well as he is a character and it might help get the best out of him. I think us staying up hinges largely on him being fit for most of the season
I'd say make Morrison the captain - he's passionate and committed to the cause, very vocal and leads well from the back. Would also mean that he wouldn't keep getting booked for mouthing off at ref's and lino's all the time . He's also still quite young, meaning he could remain captain for years to come (as quite frankly, I'd be over the moon if we could keep hold of him for a good few years as he develops into an even stronger CB). Considering I don't even think Jackson is good enough to be on the bench, he really shouldn't be captain. Perhaps make him 'club captain' or whatever that nonsense is.
Leave Solly to do what he's doing, no need for extra pressure on his young shoulders is there? Morrison for me.
I take the point about putting pressure on Solly's shoulders, but I think he could be a future captain. He used to play defensive mid quite effectively for the under-18's on several occasions.
Surely JJ is in the last chance saloon now. When he turned his back on that through-ball which he would probably have caught it reminded me of the time McOxo blatantly pulled out of a 50/50 and the fans turned against him after that. If the Doctor picks him tomorrow he owes his manager big-time.
Hamer - never stops moaning, blames everyone else when he makes a mistake, so wouldn't be capable of raising the team after conceding. Solly - just about the only consistent performer this season. Wouldn't want to ruin that by giving him too much responsibility. Cort - not sure how vocal he is, and maybe lacks the composure to be a captain. Morrison - best choice for captain. Wiggins - currently injured. Not sure he can read the game (across the whole pitch) well enough, and not vocal. Green - sadly not respected well enough by the fans to be captain, nor does he play enough. Stephens - doesn't seem as committed as other players. Hollands - has been captain a few times for us, and was before for Bournemouth/Chelsea youth, but seems to be growing out of favour as CM. Jackson - current captain. Hasn't made the step up, thus shouldn't be playing. Club captain perhaps. BWP - had a game as captain a couple of seasons ago, made him up his game by about 50%, but didn't seem to be commanding enough respect from teammates. Kermorgant - Would run through a brick-wall for the club. Has captained before in France. Not sure how vocal he is, or how well respected by other players. Fuller - too hot-headed perhaps. Seems to have the air of 'I'm better than you' when speaking bossing about other players.
Doesn't get into the positions he used to either plus ... not chasing after passes is not good leadership
