Bristol Rovers Vs Sheffield United Match Day Thread And Poll.

Won't be able to attend the game as I will be at work and won't get home until late (****ing Bristol mayoral election <grr>) so will listen in on the radio. <ok>

So who out there is going to the match. Do you think we can pull of shock. So score and scorer predictions thanks and what do you think the gate will be.

I'm sticking by my 2-1 victory to the gas, scorers will be Richards and Eaves (thats if he's playing and not cuptied).
Attendance I will say 6890.<ok>

i will be at the game so wont be on here for the match thread. but i be here for the build up and hopefully in the evening for post match thoughts. i think we will lose. etheridge and parkes missing will hurt us in my opinion but i hope the rest performs and gives 100% and even if we concede, i hope we just dont give up but have fight and show spirit.

If Sheff U bring their full side they should win - however if they rest a few then you guys have a chance to turn them over

TEAM NEWS

Bristol Rovers loanees Matthew Lund and Tom Eaves have been given permission to play by their parent clubs but keeper Neil Etheridge in ineligible.

Defender Tom Parkes serves the second game of a two-match suspension.

Sheffield United are without striker Dave Kitson so Chris Porter is likely to retain his place.

Blades boss Danny Wilson may make changes to the starting XI that beat Portsmouth 1-0 on Monday to maintain their unbeaten start in League One.

Bristol Rovers manager Mark McGhee told BBC Radio Bristol:

"I love the FA Cup and I'm really looking forward to this game.

"They'll be really difficult opponents for us and will be a big test for our young players.

"I've got to somehow spark a different reaction from the league games.

"This is a competition where there are giant-killings and we've got to make sure that we are one of the ones being mentioned."

Sheffield United boss Danny Wilson told BBC Radio Sheffield:

"We're in good form and confidence is sky-high and we'll be looking to continue that.

"There's one or two players at this moment in time who would accept a rest so there's a possibility that there might be changes.

"We know how tough his game can be because they have got absolutely nothing to lose.

"We're firm favourites but we are used to that."

What the managers have said on the match.

Danny Wilson is well aware of the importance of a cup run for the Blades this season, but admits he will keep one eye on the forthcoming hectic League One schedule.
"We have got a really tough league fixture at Swindon on Tuesday to think about," said the United chief.
"I have food for thought with regards to team selection for Saturday; we have to manage our squad to the best of our ability, considering a number of factors.
"At this moment in time perhaps a few players could benefit from a bit of a rest, but we will have to see what happens nearer the weekend.
"The FA Cup is different to the Johnstone Paint Trophy and that is with all due respect to that competition. The revenue of a good cup run is a lot better and any money coming into the coffers at the moment is welcome."
On the challenge his team must overcome in the West Country, Wilson added: "Rovers's league position isn't very good, but we don't just form our opinion on that.
"We understand how tough this could be, I know from experience what to expect at the Memorial Stadium, it will be a battle from start to finish and not a game for the football purists.
"It is the FA Cup and Bristol Rovers have nothing to lose and everything to gain; we know they will throw everything at us.
"The Bristol public are very passionate and supportive of their team, but as firm favourites we are solely focused on progressing to the second round."

Manager Mark McGhee said: “The significant thing for me this week is Tom Parkes’ suspension, it is a huge disappointment that he misses this FA Cup game.
“I think Tom is learning how important he is to the team, so I don’t have any fears about this happening again.
“Tom Eaves and Matt Lund are available, but Neil Etherigde isn’t. That is a huge blow, but saying that we have a goalkeeper here who we have a lot of hope for and a lot of faith in.
“He has worked really hard and we think he has got over his initial disappointment at being left out and is now ready to go back in and show people what a good goalkeeper he is. We are lucky to have Sam Walker here.
“Tom is getting better and better with training every day and games. He will get goals, and hopefully he will get his first goal in the FA Cup.”
And the manager could soon have other options with Danny Woodards just a few weeks away and Shaquille Hunter back in competitive action for the U18s – although the youngster still has to prove himself at the next level.
Mark said: “It will still be a couple of weeks for Danny. He has trained with us now for a couple of weeks and the temptation is to stick him on the bench, but he has not played a game yet so I am going to resist that temptation and make sure Danny is 100% right before he comes back.
“Shaquille Hunter is a young lad, who when he got injured, was being introduced to the professional game.
“He still has a lot to prove that he has anything to contribute; we think he will and we think it will be in the shorter term rather than the long term, but we cannot count on him to make any contribution, we just have to hope he makes a contribution.”
The manager has good memories of the FA Cup, getting to the semi final.
He said: “The best I have ever done as a manager is the semi-final where we were beaten 1-0 at Wolves by Arsenal.
“I never really spent a lot of time playing in the FA Cup in England. I won the Scottish FA Cup five times with Celtic and Aberdeen.
“I love the FA Cup and I am really looking forward to this game. It is a massive game for us, against a team who are unbeaten.
“They are strong and physical but they have a very good way of playing and a good work ethic. They will be really difficult opponents for us and a big test for our young players.”
And although Rovers will go into the game as under dogs, Mark knows that the supporters will still be expecting a good performance.
He said: “We don’t care about pressure from outside the club, the only pressure we care about is pressure from within the club and I think our supporters will expect us to turn up and treat it as something different.
“As a manager I have got to somehow spark a different reaction from your normal league game; this is a competition where there are giant killings.
“I want to try and make sure on Saturday night when they are talking about the giant killings they are talking about us.”

Think DW will name a few of the youth team for this one as we've some tough away games coming up. George Long and Harry Maguire are only 19 but are now regular first team. Think our crowd will be quite low, bearing in mind the costly away games pending. Personally I would prefer that we don't progress in cup because we need to focus on promotion this year to avoid losing all our quality players once again.

Burn some money money to burn.jpg then buy tickets for the Rovers Vs Sheff UTD FA Cup match on Saturday!!

Why should you not attend? simples absolutely no decent half time entertainment

images.jpg

Seriously at the moment we are unlikely to get any joy from the match, just check our stats they do not make great reading unless you support our noisy neighbours.A complete lack of consistency and poor form leaves me with no desire too burn money and watch them put to the sword by the Blades.

Once the blades score the first our heads will drop and we will concede more easily.Without Parkes and Etheridge and players playing out of position, our defence is vunerable and I can see us losing easily by 3 or 4-1

We have decided to watch the Man U vs Arsenal match which should provide more entertainment.

We will then listen to the match on the radio image002.jpg

I really hope that I am completely wrong.
