17 years ago Ayrton Senna tragically died in a Williams at Imola.

Also Roland Ratzenburger died that weekend.. both tragic victims of the sport that requires skill determination and sometimes luck is not on your side...

    RIP Ayrton Senna

    RIP Roland Ratzenburger

Please post your thoughts and memoires of Senna and Ratzenburger and your RIPs.

I don't wish to sound irreverent but I think this subject has been done to death, if you'll excuse the expression.

But I decided to comment Carno, because you have had the grace to mention Roland 'Rattie', instead of overlooking him as many do. Well done.

sadly the only things I remember about him were when he lost to Roland Rat (I thought the name Roland Ratzenberger was made up at the time) and his death. It was a nice touch from Mosely in going to his funeral instead of Senna's, as he said "everyone went to Senna's, Roland had been forgotten, I thought it was important someone should turn up"

Ayrton had an Austrian flag in his overalls when he crashed

He was going to dedicate the race to Roland on the podium

Yeah I think people forget that he also was a tragic victim that weekend and not just Ayrton.

But I decided to put it up just to show my respect to two drivers that sadly lost their lives when doing what they loved and doing what they did best.

That almost makes it a romantic death, Senna got his wish he died doing what he loved, the real victims were his family and fans, the man may have died but his legend was born.
