Might have been done before, sorry if it has. Would you be happy if this was true? I wouldnt be if its the only striker we got but if its just backup I would be quite pleased.

The article also claims that we have dropped our interest in Gervinho, Nooo, I was desperateto sign him. Imagine an attacking midfield of jonas HBA and Gervinho...

"And while Newcastle do retain an interest in Lille hitman Gervinho, they have been put off by his African Nations Cup commitments later in the season"

The article is written by Mark Douglas who is quite reliable I think.

    <wah>!

    <diva>!

Not really sure what to make of Shane Long... Dont know much about him.

edit; a quick wikipedia informs me, hes 24 and only had 1 prolific season whilst in the Championship. I'll have him as back up at most.

Probably for the best. It'll be bad enough losing Tiote around that time next year

I'd take him, he's obviously starting to hit peak form and is at an age where in the next couple of years he could become really prolific.

He's rated highly enough by the Reading guys for them to start him every game in their 2 seasons in the Premier League when he was only like 20 and he gets games for the RoI so couldn't do any harm.

Maybe, but if we did get him hopefully we would also get Larsson for backup and he could fill in for the four matches he'll miss, with Gosling slipping in for the Tiote

He's scored more goals in the Champ this season then Carroll did last season in arguably a worse team

Yes. Wouldn't break the bank, young confident, a good player to have in the squad and wouldn't kick off if he wasn't starting every week. After our toothless attacking displays at Stoke, Villa and Liverpool I think we could do worse.

Doesn't mean he is better. May have just found his level. Michael Chopra scored 22 goals for Cardiff in 2006/2007 season, 2 years younger than Shane Long, he's never been a premiership quality striker.

Tis but true, I wouldn't mind him for backup though.

Impressive Chopra based stats, he went up in my estimations for missing that 1 on 1 at SJP when playing for the mackems. Up there with Clarkys T-shirt.

Chopra will always be a geordie! I have to admit to wikipediaing to get such accurate Chopra facts. As long as Long isnt too expensive, and isn't our only striker signing of the summer, then I wont mind him joining us <ok>

Definitely! I'd probably play him alongside Best ahead of Ameobi out of our current crop but we'd still need to sign a quality striker that would see him bumped down to the bench.

He's young, talented and won't cost too much, fits into Ashley's business model and he'd improve our matchday squad for sure.

    This.

    Possible strikeforce next season :

    1 QUALITY ST(main star), Best/Long(2nd choice/back-up), Ameobi/Lover(one has to be sold though) & Airey/Vuckic/Young Ameobi(squad players/back-up).

Get Ranger out on LOAN! A spell in the Championship will do him wonders IMO.

Hopefully one of the 2 international players we apparantly have waiting to sign is a striker.

They'll probably be queueing up to join us. After watching our strikers dissapear in the last few away games they'd know that they'd be straight into the starting line up - is this a master ploy by our management!?
