Whatever, you've still won **** all and you never will.

Enjoy the rare occasion when you're doing better than us, it's all we've got to play for tbh, football is ruined.

If success is measured by finishing in the top half of the Premiership I think I'd rather go down. At least we'd play some different teams <laugh>

My thoughts on the premiership are well documented if you look through my posts I have made in the past.

In fact I think I said that I prefer the Championship for the robust nature of the games and the fact there is a lot less diving. Unfortunately success these days is getting to and staying the the premier league. Things have changed a lot since Town won things and at my age I cannot remember anything you guys have won.

Football is in a sorry state, especially in the premier league I hate seeing the players playing with so much fear that no one really gives it a good go anymore there is simply too much at stake.

Fair enough if you think going down to League 1 is a good thing, it was for us it's just whether the current owner will still bank roll you if it happens.

I'm not going to dismiss out of hand Ipswich's acheivements in the past, if I supported Town I would probably be 'banging on about history'. <laugh> Football really was a completely different game in those days though, a club the size of Ipswich or Norwich will never be able to win the top Division again. I can remember Town's success from years gone by, but then I am 50 ! Unfortunately for Town, these acheivements have no meaning or relevance to the young football fan. There are clubs who have a more illustrious history than Town but are now considered small town clubs of no significance to those other than their own supporters.

For example:

First Division

Champions: 1923–24, 1924–25, 1925–26
Runners-up: 1926–27, 1927–28, 1933–34
Third-place: 1922–23, 1935–36, 1953–54
Second Division

Champions: 1969–70
Runners-up: 1919–20, 1952–53
Third Division

Promoted: 1982–83
Play-offs Winners: 1995, 2012
Play-offs Finalists: 2011
Play-offs Semi-finalists: 1992, 2002, 2006, 2010
Fourth Division

Champions: 1979–80
Play-offs Winners: 2004
[edit] CupFA Cup

Winners: 1922
Runners-up: 1920, 1928, 1930, 1938
Semi-finalists: 1929, 1939
Football League Cup

Semi-finalists: 1968
FA Charity Shield

Winners: 1922
Never played: 1924 (Newcastle United), 1925 (Sheffield United), 1926 (Bolton Wanderers).

Anyone care to guess who this club is ??

Play-off Semi-finalists: 1995

FA Cup
Winners: 1889, 1938
Runners-up: 1888, 1922, 1937, 1954, 1964

FA Charity Shield

Runners-up: 1938

Football League War Cup
Winners: 1941

So, the comment about past trophies being pretty meaningless is accurate. Means sod all and definitely does not make many clubs what they are today <ok>

Huddersfield, Burnley & Preston have all won more than either of our clubs but they are all viewed as 'nothing' clubs these days.

In fact reports are that McCarthy's odds are on the slide and it is now a straight 2 horse race between McCarthy and Holloway. Apparently Mick has already been interviewed and Holloway being sounded out before any confirmation is made. I'm not sure if we have already interviewed Holloway or are planning too, it seems it's anyone's guess but it looks like McCarthy unless Holloway pulls off a binder in an interview (if it happens)

It's bizarre to mention Preston! They were the first big club and contributed players like Tom Finney who everyone knows about. Everyone knows about Stanley Matthews at Stoke, everyone knows about Herbert Chapman's great Arsenal team of the 20s (some may not know it was he who did amazing things at Huddersfield).

Everyone knows about Wolves' great team and Clough and Robson at Forest and Ipswich, and everyone knows that Norwich are what they are, none of the above.

Harry Redknapp said this this week:

When asked directly about the Town job, he said: “Ipswich is a good club – I have not been offered the job at Ipswich.

“Teams (like Ipswich and Blackburn) have won championships in my lifetime, they (Ipswich) had great days under Sir Alf Ramsey, Sir Bobby Robson and George Burley.

Let's look at what you're actually saying: No achievements by any club are relevant because they will soon be in the past. Even if they are in your lifetime and you actually experienced them, they are still not relevant. The only relevance in football is what is happening right now. But that will soon be irrelevant. It just doesn't make sense boys.

Do you think a player/manager would choose Ipswich over another club because of your history? I guarantee that any player/manager would choose, let's say Brighton over you now.

I'm not saying it's not relevant? It just didn't happen in my lifetime so for ME it is not relevant. In the same way if NCFC had won anything years ago it would also not be relevant to me as I would not have experienced it and have any memories attached to it.

It's hard to take for you guys but ITFC have been struggling for quite a few years now under Marcus Evans and there has been nothing to smile about for quite a few years now. At the moment at least, history is all you have to look back on for any feel good factor which is related to ITFC.

If bringing up and living off past achievements makes you feel better about your club I totally understand as ITFC have spent many years in the doldrums now and everyone needs something to cling onto in the hard times.
