Well I will have to beg to differ in that I want to see SFC win competitive football matches. I accept we won't win them all but like I said earlier it would seem the commitment was very questionable tonight and that concerns me. Who's PL standard is irrelevent in the fact we might struggle to field 11 players if debated.
You are not bothered we had a shot on target? not sure if this is supposed to mean 'you are not bothered that we didn't have a shot on target' and yes that is a bit worrying but playing a brand new team of 90 minutes i didn't expect people to gel 100%. You are not bothered we lost 3-0? - not really.. given the team selected i would say that is okay. You are not bothered that this loss will put more pressure on the team and manager? - I would only worry about their morale. The one benefit of the loss is that in the future there is more time to prepare for Premier League matches.
I'm not happy but no I'm not that bothered. I would rather we were able to put out a strong team and win the game but the likes of Lambert and Lallana played 90 minutes only 2 days ago. As you have pointed out many times, the financial rewards of staying in the Premier League hugely increase next year and now vastly outweigh the rewards of winning the League Cup. As you have also pointed out, we have a "woefully inadequate and weak" squad so I'd rather not risk injuring the good players we DO have by playing them in a competition that (sadly) is not a priority this year. A win would have been nice but there is no reason this result should put more pressure on Adkins or the team. Most Premier League sides now put out reserve teams in this competition and frequently lose in the early rounds, sometimes heavily.
Sadly I believe you are the only PL team to lose to lesser opposition by more than one goal so far. This isn't me boasting but I was surprised to see the team you put out. Even when we played Everton they still played a portion of there first team
All that way to see 5 skates and a terrible and burnt pie was worse. Varney did his upmost to cheer us up with that miss. Also who was that lad that we made look like Pele playing wide right for you; scored the second? And the midfileder we made look like Platini?
You are right to be angry. It's not the result, it's the attitude and abject performance that was poor. That Leeds team is poor by their recent standards. My Leeds mates tells me they have been awful of late. Apart from a couple of them, they showed no pride.
Are you referring to El Hadji Diouf (although I didn't think he was playing wide right, he did score the second though) and our Jamaican Midfielder Rodolph Austin by chance? Or was it Michael Brown your talking about?
Diouf played wide right most of the game, and I was talking about Brown. I was of course talking tongue in cheek. We were shocking. I have a few Leeds mates who told me how bad you have been recently and that we'd win easily. I don't know how close to your first team that was, but it isn't good but you still outplayed us and gave us a good thumping. I'm still not happy about that pie! Good luck this season.
Part of the problem here is that these are the guys we will have to rely on should any kind of injury crisis occur ,highly unlikely i know but scary all the same.It kind of highlights that we are stuck with what we have and defensively we have no option other than hope that the first team starters can stem the flow of goals we are conceding in the prem.
We were playing Leeds last year, so no huge disgrace in losing since we played a hodge podge of a team and they have just beaten Everton. However, I still think we should have put out a stronger team and put effort in to win it or give a performance for the fans. Talk of injuries is daft...players could get hurt next week and Elland Road isn't a ploughed field to fear.
What I am worried about with is the reality is that we are poor in depth. This result flags up the fact we have a piss poor squad for the level we are at.
I agree with the OP. For god's sake calm down, grow a backbone, and stop flapping. Two promotions in two seasons has turned a fair number of our supporters into quivering jellies by the looks of things. Never seen rough times before? Can't of been Saints fans for very long then. Incidentally, on paper there was nothing wrong with the side Adkins put out last night. That group of players should have been capable of at least giving Leeds a game. Only they will know why they didn't, but ffs let's get over it. A couple of wins in the league and it'll all look different.
And may I refer you to the man in black? No excuses for the result but he gave you every gentle nudge. That'll be the fouls count result oh and the small matter of us giving you back the ball anytime we got it
That may be the case this year but I know other teams have lost heavily in the past playing weakened teams. We put out such a weak team at least partly because we only played Spurs on Sunday. If we'd played Spurs on Saturday or if this cup game was to be played today then we might have played a stronger side. Whoever arranges the fixtures needs their head looking at!
Saints lost, move on. look forward to Monday. Well played Leeds, see you at Elland road next season for more fun and games
cHANNONfodder u say wait till the Jan window. Its harder to buy in the jan window and we didnt buy defenders in the summer, so i would not have that much confidence on that.
There seem to be a lot of manic depressives on this forum with extremely short memories. Just to remind you, two years ago we were in the 1st division. If you seriously thought we could get promoted in successive seasons after what we went through over the last eight years and not find the start of this season a struggle, particularly with the initial run of fixtures we had, then you lot are either living in cloud cookoo land or several of you are wind up merchants. It was never going to be easy - but I am pleased with last night. The fact that Adkins changed the team completely shows that he is 100% focused on sorting our league form out, and didn't want to risk injuries. Or would you rather have an injury to Lambert to moan about? Or Lallana? As the original poster said, people need to calm down. I rather think that whatever happens, certain people here will find something to moan about though.
