I could understand people questioning if Swansea at home might be the end of the line, but not WBA away. Good team, away from home. That's got defeat written all over it. So if that's his last chance, we may as well just end things now. Why wait? No, barring an absolute hammering, if Nigel is on the touch-line against WBA, he'll also be on the touch-line against Swansea.
Cortese and Reed may not be picking the team as such but if the 'Southampton way' is to play 4-3-3 at all levels and they are putting pressure on Nigel to play this way, then Nigel has to utilise players that best fit this formation. Where if he had free reign to play as he likes then those players may not fit into that system. No proof but that is my take on it for what its worth.
About 5 games back when we predicted our points over coming games, I actually has us down for a defeat at west ham and a win at westbrom .... Here's hoping I'm correct. . . . . Ps . I also had us to beat Fulham and draw with spurs, but hey, why let a few facts get in the way of a good post.
Lamb you really need to stop trying to say the positive/right thing just so your not seen to be negative. On another thread i said i wanted us to field a first team and get some consistency you and flt agreed with me. Now we didn't do that and you still defend NA. I think that if NA suddenly stood on the touch line in a pompey shirt you would still find a way to defend him. Nigel had a shocker picked the wrong team wasted the money and time of thousands of loyal fans. Its not the end of the world for you to cricticise him.
Well one thing for sure, it wasn't Gulys fault this time, NA said that "it was entirely my fault", fact.
Or at least had a couple of impact subs. Lambo bagging a couple of goals would have done wonders for his morale.
Why wait indeed? Also as good as west brom are surely if we're expecting not to get a result as fans then that means we have lost confidence in our team. Me personally i think we can win but for the first time this season i fully expect us to lose and that says to me that something has to change. Whether thats adkins going or someone else coming in to assist him i don't honestly mind but either way Adkins on his own as manager and we 100% get relegated.
There was a feeling of dread on sunday. Nobody really believed we could do anything against spurs and i have exactly the same feeling against WBrom. Same old prem season for us. Losing most games and trying to hang in by our fingernails. With owner that actually has some money and has spent a lot i didnt see this coming. One thing that people have forgotten about. I am still very annoyed about the ramires injury. Some bloody idiot has clattered into him with rediculous force to have him out for six weeks and hospitalise him. Thats bloody rediculous!!!!!!!!
There's an awful lot of "we can't be expected to win that game" comments that seem to be happening, or "we would never have had that game as 3 points" - to the extent I think people only expect us to beat 3 teams at home. That would give us 9 points for the season. Honestly guys, yes we should go to West Brom looking for a result. I'd say only the top 4 are games where we can say "oh that's going to be a loss" - it's going to be a very long and depressing season if we go in to every match bar QPR/Norwich/Reading expecting to come away with nothing......
For the last 10 minutes at Spurs everyone was singing "one Nigel Adkins". So what's changed? Yesterday was bad and I feel sorry for the fans (and disappointed at the experienced players who played) but I am surprised to see that some have found a new passion for the Carling 1 Cup, the only thing I would have done different is included more of the younger players who were on the bench, oh and called it "Saints Reserves". Hopefully those who were upset last night have slept on it and don't want Nigel to be jettisoned this morning after all, it won't happen. Just take a look at the next ten fixtures, I have no doubt that Nigel will get results.
As I have said in another thread, I find it pretty disgusting how short some of your memories are. Please feel free to go "support" another club if ours is so carp.
I don't really understand this. Are you saying that we should live merry on memories. I don't want to sound like Gomarchingin, but I'm more interested in wishing some success on us currently, rather than accepting substandard performances. I love this club and that's precisely why I'm upset by the current status quo. I don't want Adkins replaced immediately, but it's edging quickly towards that as a possible solution as keeping our premiership status should be our aim this season, not looking and back and being satisfied with having got here in the first place. Nothing to do with loyalty, everything to do with reasonable expectation having spent £30m over the summer.
Once again our site is full statements about how the club is run without one single thread of evidence to support one view or another. Going back to the point of the original thread - will WBA be his last game? After last nights awful showing - if WBA game is not 100% better - it may well be. I am not advocating a change - but last night was simply unacceptable. I have already stated my view previously - Adkins should be given to Christmas to sort this out. He, like the players, is learning at this level. What is deeply concerning however - is that I cannot see any discernable improvement in the perfomances since the start of the season - particularly in the defence and, at times, with the midfielders tracking back to support the back-four. Adkins does not seem to be getting of top of this.
I don't think that it is the Capital One Cup is that relevant in this case, it's become the case that the rot of losing every single game is well and truly setting in. It becomes a losing mindset for fans and players alike. Like others have said above, it's no fun going into games thinking you are going to get battered. At the start of the season I thought we were going to be well beat at Man City, but wasn't too bothered, they were the champions after all. After we gave them a close run though I started believing we could win games against the big clubs. Now that confidence is slipping away. What I expect from watching Saints now, is a 20-30min spell when we are by far the better team, create loads of chances and show our class. But also a period of prolonged dross, where the players look out of their depth and lacking ideas, this part of the game is usually enough to put us out of contention. Are the players now starting to go into games thinking the above scenario is what they are going to read about in the papers on a Monday morning?
Yes, this is absolutely correct. As is Downthe36 post above too. I really, really, really want Nigel to get on top of this, but losing does (cliche alert) become a habit, and our heads have definitely dropped. Who knows though, a luck win against the Baggies with a deflected goal off Guly's arse in the 97th minute and a solid defeat of Swansea and it would all look a bit rosier
Why is that a top post? Godders whinges as much as anyone on here, and even had a post deleted for its offensive nature. Every now and then he announces his retirement from the board, but still comes back every time.
