I always liked Level 42 in the early part of their career... Proper British Jazz-Funk... It all went a bit commercial in 1986 but I was a huge fan by then and was pretty much nailed on to buy everything they cared to release!
Underrated bands for me would be The Sensational Alex Harvey Band who were moderately succesful but never got their due acclaim. I saw Alex Harvey live in Germany just 3 days before he died and he was steaming drunk but still amazing. A real Rock wild man with a distinctive sound, he opened with Faith Healer, imho one of the greatest rock songs of all time. I was deaf for 3 days such was the volume, but it was worth it to see perhaps the most unfairly overlooked star of Scottish rock and music in general.
