Marvo, you are correct when you say that l have singled Obertan out for criticism, l have, right from day one as l genuinely feel that he is a poor signing. As far as the you lot comment is concerned l have never criticised any other NUFC player, not Perch or Simmo, definitely not Guthrie who I feel is a big loss to the club, nor Willo or Ba. I have also been a little underwhelmed by Anita, but have said he needs a season to settle and then we will see.
I have expressed concern about Cisse in so much as l feel he is well out of sorts and l wonder why, but where Obertan is concerned my point is that his popularity with AP baffles me when compared to his performances. Yes he has had a couple of decent matches against opposition he ought to be decent against. I guess if l analyse my opinion of him, it stems from the fact that he has no "balls" and whilst he has undoubted pace, cannot cross, offers nothing defensively and will never commit to a tackle or challenge for a 50/50 ball. The man is spineless., and no matter how often Pardew plays him, he will never be any better because he has no passion or courage.
You are right when you say that other players have been poor at times, but that is forgivable as they tend to be dropped and are really only ever seen as utility players, whereas Obertan is not put into that category and l cant see why. l hope l have not come across as blaming Obertan for everything, because l don't, l just blame
him for the faults l see in him, and as l stated previously am left speechless by Pardew's declaration that only the presence of HBA keeps him out of the team.

funny thing is we all ridiculed Colo, Perch and many others that have come good.

I think Obertan could do a job if he could do the simple thing more often I cut in and pass to Cabaye who will do the rest.

Well since we've gone it to full on opinion, I think he is one of the best at what he does but he doesn't do that much.

Give him space either to look for the goal or play the ball into and run past a defender and he will every time. Give him a quick pass or have an opponent run at him and he might as well not be there. crosses are the only middling area and more likely to fly in a random direction than now and again straight to the open play with an easy shot.

but this is why I would pick him over Marvo you know what your getting and you can work around the issues, but Marvo and to a lesser extent HBA throw up inconstant performances in a 90 min game.

Thinks he has bright future in the premier league? for me if he's going to play it might as well be up along side a striker because he can shoot , has electirc pace and skill, however cant cross, has no brain and pretends hes trying to tackle when we are defending.

The only thing is he also seems scared to head the ball so that is a major issue.

    What do you think?

It's clever management in my opinion - Pardew knows that he has to continuously rotate the squad, the pure volume of fixtures dictates it... so he's simply 'bigging up' the players who need it.

Obertan is a class act going forward on a good day... problem being that there are far too few good days.

"When has anyone, ever, made Obertan/Perch/Willo/Guthrie/Simpson the scapegoat for a tepid overall team performance? "

Far too often, unfortunately. PAM was trying to re-add Shola to that group last week.

There are players who attract hatred, and Ober is currently near the top of the list. Admittedly, on tis board you usually get a degree of balance to the negative comments but in pubs all over the toon Obere is blamed for everything from ticket prices being to high to Sir Bobby being too old to play right back (and therefore be able to sack Simpson, pile of *****)
