The club and Wenger stood by him, presumably because they knew he was an excellent player and would score tons of goals. He was happy there because he was being paid and there weren't any better options. It was never about loyalty. You and the manager want what's best for Arsenal, but RVP wants what's best for himself.

You'd be stupid to think he was an Arsenal fan. He's Dutch. He was born in Rotterdam. He most likely supports Feyenoord, Sparta or Excelsior.

So you would be happy to have a player that completes 2 out of 8 season's at your club, turn around and just stick two fingers up at your club once he gets 'some options'? Van Persie with hid statement did that. Not only did he weaken our bargain position he questioned a manger that kept faith in him when so many others would have given up.

    Feyenoord judging by the duvet!

Doesn't matter even if he is a big arsenal fan though. He's taken a step up the career ladder. That's what it's all about. You'd be daft to turn down a better job just because you really like your current employers.

Nah he did support Arsenal. The picture on the left tells you that. He has spoken about that many times.

Theres no denying RVP screwed you over and being a spurs fan i'm used to players leaving us!....and its fitting that the best player I have seen at the lane since the premier league started (Jurgen Klinsmann) gave a press conference to announce he was leaving and to thank the spurs fans and you can see how hard of a decision it was.

Usually they lie to the club, go on strike or act like complete numpties to get their move so its no wonder fans hold a grudge as no one likes being treated like a mug.

A lot of people have merch from clubs they don't support. I have Galatasaray and Sparta Prague merch, but I don't support either of them. The Feyenoord duvet cover seals it for me though. Who buys a duvet cover of a team they don't support?

He clearly supported a few teams, then. But he has spoken about how Arsenal was one of them in the past. I am not claiming he was a die hard Arsenal fan, but he was not a player that had zero connections to the club before he joined. Also let's not forgot that Van Persie was a massive hothead when we took him. His old club did not want him and even at Arsenal he lost it a few times. He was in jail for 14 days after a night out in Holland. That plus the injuries, meant that Wenger had to show a lot of faith in him when many wanted shot of him. Van Persie clearly did not have any of that in his mind when he decided to question Wenger with his little statement. Anyway, why the **** I am talking about Van Persie on the Saints board and a Harry Redknapp thread? <laugh>

<laugh>.....I think it shows just how much the saints fan think of Redknapp, that they don't give a toss and are happy to go off topic!

To get it back on topic, I reckon Arry is on his way to QPR. Hughes is under serious pressure and they are the sort of club that I think Arry would go for, also unlike at Southampton, their fans actually want him!!!

He'd be a better fit at QPR; they have the talent but are in desperate need of someone who the mercenaries would respect and thus for whom they would play hard, and Arry is likely that. Here, the problem doesn't seem to be motivation...it's simply that we're short a couple capable defensive players in a league where being short a couple defensive players means some punishing scorelines. I suspect that whoever our manager might be will suddenly look better after the January window, simply because we won't be so woefully short on quality depth at the back.

The club stood by him then because they were contractually obliged to. A good friend of mine was a young rugby pro, was breaking in to the first team (at a prem club) and got badly injured. The club stuck by him through his injury until his contract ran out (no bitterness though as that is life and he accepted that). If RVP were not under contract and they felt he wouldn't recover properly or be the same player again they would have had shot of him in no time at all, once they could.

I think a few of you are finding faults with Redknapp which simply aren't there.

Questioning his youth policy is a strange one considering who gave half the England team of recent years their club debuts.

I am not saying he is some kind of Dario Gradi. I am not even saying he favours young players.

But he is certainly no worse than most managers when it comes to introducing young players into the first team.

If they are good enough to play in the first team they will. And that's all you can really ask of a manager. To pick the best team that's available to him.

In which case, that will be once less relegation candidate for this season.

As I said earlier, Southampton have an opportunity to appoint an unemployed, outstanding manager who lives up the road from them and would keep them up comfortably. And if they don't sign him up quick, one of their rivals will.

Good morning mate! How u doing today?

Can you say that with any real certainty though? He may well do but it is a gamble.

With Redknapp in charge, the threat of relegation would diminish considerably IMO.

Doing OK and feeling optimistic about taking Spurs to the cleaners. A home win and a lot of this manager talk will go away! I've no doubt that NA will become a top top manager. Just hope he gets the chance to prove it with us.

Hope you are right on both points mate.

Would love to see you beat the spuds (we are competing for champions league football now you see rather than premiership survival :D

Sticking with Adkins would be admirable and hopefully not costly.
