I have been campaigning for Jewell to be sacked ever since December and I admit that towards the end I did get very angry and annoyed about the way he was mismanaging our football club. The news of his dismissal today not only brings a huge sense of relief but also a tinge of sadness for Jewell. At the end of the day he just wasn't the right appointment for Ipswich in the first place. We were all pretty underwhelmed by his appointment and his record suggests that he is in the bottom 3 of worst Town managers. Although he undoubtedly tried his best his tactical acumen, transfer dealings, short termism, man management skills and lack of understanding our traditions by shunning youth all simply caught up with him in the end. The sadness feel is for Jewell on a personal level and I would like to apologise for some of the vitriol at the end towards him. Football is something that stokes up the emotions and they can be ugly when the thing that you love is being ruined. Jewell is a personable enough bloke and I would like to wish him well for the future in whatever direction he chooses to go. I'm sorry that it didn't work out for him but the right decision has finally been made and now we can all move on!

Yep agreed. I would just like to add that I think he has been shafted by those above and although he may not have been up to the job, he certainly wasnt helped by having his budget decimated and pinky and perky staying tight lipped in their ivory towers. Good luck to you Paul. You seemed like the kind of manager, personality wise who I want at Town and unlike some before you I hope you have a long and happy future.

    I agree with your agreement.

Honest and earnest are words I'd use. Good luck to him but I think he'll find it hard to get another job.

just thought i'd show you these wise words from a norwich fan to all ipswich fans:

"From bitter experience dear Ipswich fans, changing managers at a badly run club does not stop it being a badly run club." #itfc #ncfc #clegg

I have to agree. I think the lack of a clear plan was his downfall and his inability to instill resiliance into the team. I really do feel if PJ would have taken over when Jim got the sack he would have done well for us!! He just couldn't get a team together quick enough or balanced enough given the holes we had in it!! He was exactly what we needed after Keane but that summer the club and himself needed to put a realistic plan in place, unfortunately it was only around the start of 2012 when this was realised and since then he's been playing catch up!!

I feel sorry for him tbh, he's came to the club for a manager at the worst possible time IMO. We had a poor underperforming squad, none of whom had any real love for the club. Lots of average players on big contracts. Alot of players out of contract. Fans thought the Keane era was going to be an era of success it turned out to be anything but and the patience shown to previous managers was wearing very thin as the dream was over. ME clearly wasn't going to back PJ to the same extent as the 2 previous managers (despite I think he would have spent it alot better) add the new financial regulations. All of this and expectations were still high, it was and is as far as I am aware PL at the first opportunity!! He had a mammoth job, I was fairly pleased with PJ over the summer and the noises coming out of the club although we needed a few more numbers. The writing was on the wall however with the sudden influx of loans, the past month or so, he appears to have got desperate and last night was when it became crystal clear he had to go!!!

Credit to the man though, he never shyed away from his responsibilities and always took responsibility unlike those above. He was sometimes too honest for his own good but he always talked sense and like Tractorbhoy said is the kind of personality I like to see as an Ipswich manager.

Beautifully written and sums it up perfectly JWM (and PTC), he did try his best and obviously it hurt him to be failing as some of his (more recent) interviews show.

I saw on twitter someone write (something along the lines of)

"Thank you for Barnsley away, West Ham at home and for not being Roy Keane, would have liked for it to work for you here but I think we all agree in thanking you for your efforts and good luck. It just wasn't working"

Or something like that - which sums it up pretty well for me

I wish him all the best for the future. He's honest, hardworking, pleasant and seems a genuine person. It's a shame it never worked, as others have said (including myself), he just wasn't the right person to lead this great club back to the top.

But, we still have the unfortunate issue of Clegg. He pulls the strings at the club, thus tightening the noose of past managers, and more than likely, future managers.

It might be nothing personal to you jonny but it bloody well is for me, Im glad hes gone the decimation of our club that he has presided over has been nothing short of catastrophic. Do I care that hes out of work? No I dont hes a millionaire and will live comfortably for many years on his income from the game. Would I like to see him back in football? Couldnt care less but if he does come back into the game I hope its far away from here. Personal? Bloody right it is!

The point I was trying to make maybe cack handedly is that now he has gone I will wish him well so long as he never darkens our door again. No doubt he will be compensated very handsomely but from a human perspective this will have hurt him and he will never manage at this level again. I do not wish him any ill as he has at least tried to turn things around but has ultimately failed. I am prepared to forgive and more importantly forget!

When I read the news at 7:30 this morning I ran around my living room like a loon pumping my fists in celebration. In fact I celebrated more than I have any goal this season.
It's sad that it ended up this way, I hate to see any ITFC manager fail, but a massive failure is what it was and he has paid the price.
Good luck Paul, it just wasn't meant to be.
