Yes, a friend of mine had a conversation with Eric Larsen who said its the first time they have been given total control of team affairs and they Are desperate to show what they can do with a board giving them full backing instead of normally having one hand tied behind their backs . A very intresting in sight as to how Larsen sees it here
I thought it was you that made the original point Norway. Of course nothing is forever, but if we can leverage this motivation for as long as it works in our favor we can make significant steps forward, not just in succes with the ball, but success as a business establishing revenue streams and assets factories that will ensure our sustainability at the top level.
If Laudrup is motivated by being a great coach then he should stay with us until we have won the PL and Champions League. I'm sure most managers could win the Champions League with Barcelona's team and budget, but only the most amazing coach could do it with us Swans !
There's no doubt that Laudrup, and his staff, appreciate the freedom they have with us. He still has constraints, however, in terms of financial clout. Luckily Laudrup seems to be a well grounded and intelligent man who will understand the need for our fiscal policy. That's why it is so vital that we retain our Premier League status with the massive financial reward for doing so. If we do, I can see ML using those funds to really ratchet up the quality of our new signings. People want to play for him, particularly those abroad where the real bargains are to be found. At the moment, we can't really afford the better players who, in any event, will probably be waiting to see how well we do this season. If we establish ourselves I can see these players willing to commit to our cause, particularly if we can offer them a decent salary. That said, I never want to go down the road of paying the sort of stupid money that some clubs have and do. That can only mean ruin in the long term. I'm sure that Michael Laudrup is well aware of this and can be trusted to get value for money no matter what he spends.
The good thing about the financial constraints we have is that it would have been put to Laudrup before he took the job, so it can be seen as quite refreshing for a top name to be willing to prove himself without a bottomless pit of money. Having said that, we arnt exactly poor and as Laudrup has proved, there are some fantastic players out there for resonable money Ki - £5m Michu - £2m Chico - 1,75m JDG - season long loan All for the outlay of Gylfi siguddson, not withstanding wages of course, but you catch my drift As Ivor says its vital to stay up this season,if we do then i think Laudrup can take the team further. My only concern is that his family can settle here and be happy, if they do that and the team acheives survival then it could be a good place for Laudrup and us
lets be honest here Laudrup is not here for the money as he is a wealthy man already. he is here to test himself in the best and hardest league in the world and even though he signed a cautious 2 year contract then if he does reasonably well then i cant see him not extending beyond 2 years......The players however is a different story and a different scenario. They will want to play for the biggest team and earn as much as they can during their short career. I'm a realist and understand that we are a stepping stone for them to show the world what they can do in the premiership and it wont matter one jot that laudrup is the manager if a top club comes in for them then they would be off like a shot..laudrup or no laudrup.....the good thing is we will make a shed full of money....
I'm inclined to agree with you Dai. If Michu keeps scoring at his current rate he will be difficult to keep hold of.
I agree to an extent Dai, but as has been mentioned Michu has shown small club loyalty before when given the chance to move to a bigger club and only came to us because of Laudrup. Wasn't he linked with Man city and Liverpool about 2 years ago? I think we do underestimate what a draw to the club Laudrup is, Hernandez had a couple of other premier league clubs after him and it was looking like Wigan had gazumped us at one point, but he left a big club to come to little old us because of Laudrup.
Laudrup is a draw for players and the players think they would have a better chance of first team football with us than any of the big clubs....But now they are here they are in the shop window so to speak and if michu ends up around the top scorer in the premiership then we will find it hard to keep hold of him. On the other hand his value will be in the high double figures so we will be on to a winner whatever happens....
playing the devils advocate - champions league football - who would be in the squad and who would you move on??
Laudrup stated that he might add to the coaching team after a couple of months . We're up and running in the premier legue again - do you see him adding to the backroom staff ?
