And I don't mean which you think is the best book, because, like music it is very subjective, but which book had the profoundest effect on you for the first time. As a wee laddie The Pilgrims Progress was the one that affected me most emotionally. Have not read it in years but seriously considering purchasing it.
Whats the book about the kid with the jesus sandals? one of the first books I was actually made to read.
See a helicopter went down in the North Sea today, E.R. Think it was going out to one of the rigs up by the Shetlands.
Aye, I saw that. Ive been going offshore on and off for nearly 20 years. Done the survival course 4 times and don't think i can be arsed with it anymore.
Cracking book MD, the problem is that is recent years a few people have cast doubt on whether Henri Charriere (Papillon) was telling the truth about his experiences. Great book though. "The blow was such a stunner that it was thirteen years before I got on my feet again. It was no ordinary blow either and they all clubbed together to let me have it...."
Aye I've read a few of the rumours such as the french claiming there was no record of him ever being there. Still I'd like to read it.
I read it two or three times when I was a young 'un. If I remember correctly it's about 500 pages long but you'll soon get through it, it's a page-turner.
I suppose the first book that had an impact on me was "The Rats of NIHM" that a teacher gave me to read in primary school. Made me realise that fiction could be exciting and could go anywhere. This is what sparked a life long interest in reading.
I've got that many on my "to read list" I don't know where to start. I've read a few 'crime' books of late including a book on Kenny Noye (what a ****), Lenny McClean (what a hard ****) and Levi Bellfield (what a 'orrible ****).
Not read Papillon but have seen the film. I know books are better than films 99 times out of a 100 but how did the film compare? I thought it was a cracking film with great performances fron McQueen and Hoffman.
