You can see what nice friendly "fans" Leeds have got. Take Exodus who has posted on this discussion who thinks it's fine to use the F word in big capital letters on his signature. Isn't he big & clever??? & going back to JWM's post earlier (about the last day of the season when they got relegated) It certainly wasn't just 1 or 2 so called fans throwing things at the Ipswich supporters, it was done in large numbers & with children as the targets - disgusting
There were 13 people arrested and charged (including the thug from the Wenesday game). I'm assuming though you're going to forget the chants of "You're the scum of Elland Road" coming from the 95% left in the stands? (and that's taking into account most of the people on the pitch were idiots who thought the game had finished.
If you weren't supported by 'vile scum': A - it wouldn't have happened B - you wouldn't be here talking about it C - you wouldn't be using an accused (by hundreds and probably soon to be convicted posthumously) *****phile as your avatar You love the tag 'thug' because it's all you've got.
Wrong, wrong, don't see what that's got to do with it and wrong. One person doesn't make an entire club's fanbase "vile scum".
When was this Simon? Hope you are not referring to the incident where a fan threw a cigarette butt at him as it missed
All I know is Casper Ankergren seemed pretty angry afterwards, and only vile animals could try to hurt someone as friendly as him. Also throwing like a girl isn't a valid defence mate!
Innocent until PROVEN GUILTY. And I can't believe people on this board are offended by the **** word. It's pixels on a screen. Stop moping and live a little.
Innocent until proven guilty. That's why I used the word 'alleged'. I bet you Paul Jewell's severance package that he's found guilty of being, ahem, "vile scum".
Simon Ive just read a similar thread to this on the Hull board and came on here to see if there were any comments on yesterdays game. However while i'm here... Much as you are making the point that the actions of one moron cannot represent 5000, and maybe the actions of the other handful of morons who are visible on camera encroaching onto the pitch cannot be representative of 5000, nor can the actions of however many who are reported to have ripped out seats and thrown them at the Wednesday fans be representative of 5000 the fact is that history is not on your side. It is slightly encouraging that the main culprit has been named and shamed by those who know him. However the actions of Leeds fans over the years, time and time again...be it booing and chanting 'There's only one Don Revie' while there was a minutes silence for Sir Matt Busby, or the riots at Bradford or Bournemouth. Or the riot a couple of years ago at Elland Road with the Millwall fans... mean it is hard not to group all Leeds fans under one banner. Especially when many of the chants from Leeds fans seem to glorify the fact that they are hated by others. Sadly (in my opinion) the fact that so many Leeds fans seem to glory in your reputation seems to be attractive to exactly the sort of fan(s) who acted like uneducated ape men on Friday and draws them towards your club.
You're correct in my opinion that it is a self perpetuating reputation, however it is one that is carried on by a tiny minority of scum who are largely kept in check. This is the first incidence of anything other than incredibly minor trouble since the unfortunate incident against your team at Elland Road, involving it seems largely the same people. What needs to be looked at is how we stop this minority getting in rather than rashly punishing the respectful masses with knee jerk bans/deductions etc. (btw as far as I'm aware Leeds fans weren't throwing chairs at Wednesday fans, one chair ended up on the pitch from our end while missiles were thrown at us, and it's exactly that kind of hyperbole that carries on the unfair reputation, just like inaccurate claims that Cawley was welcomed back into the stands and patted on the back, people make these things up incredibly easily and it's much harder to quell the speculation in favour of the truth)
Apparently the chair throwing is being looked into by SY Police, I'm going on what was reported in the press (who I realise are hardly the best guide in some cases). I would imagine it would take strong leadership and a change in culture to reverse the trend, not something that I imagine cuddly Ken has in large quantities, especially not if it will hit his pocket.
I have to say I've never had a spot of bother from leeds fans ever - I wish i could say the same about fans of many other clubs. Labelling 5,000 people as vile scum for the actions of a handful of idiots is more than a little harsh I think.
And Exodus still hasn't explained his disgusting avatar, if I was Maltese Mick I'd ban him from these boards with immediate effect. Am I the only one here who now finds the image of that 'man' abhorent
KIO, It just goes to show the mindset of some. Havent got a problem with the image but wonder why anyone would want to be associated with it.
I'm not saying Leeds fans are blameless, however Sheffield Wednesday fans also need to look at themselves for what happened. I also think it's far too easy for some to focus on the "vile Leeds scum" rather than allow themselves to consider the wider problem (an area where I think Jones' comments really didn't help), the elements of both sets of fans who joined in need to consider their actions and the authorities need to look into how this can be better dealt with in the game in general.
Sadly, no matter what they do, it seems Leeds will never be able to drop this tag and as i've said before i donlt think it's warranted. I'm not going to name clubs as I have no wish to get into a big argument about it but there's a few out there every bit as bad as or worse than Leeds and they don't get the same villification. The really depressing thing is that when supporters of other clubs do stand accused of doing stuff they'll often say "but Leeds are worse". It's a convenient bandwagon to jump on but completely unfair. Incidentally, if this had happened at Elland Road Leeds would have definitely been charged for not controlling their supporters. inrteresting that when an away support does it the host club isnlt subject to the same punishment. And that's not to condone the actions of the idiot who did what he did but then i don't see one person doing that.
