After a reasonably pain free win against struggling Pompey, in front of a strangely muted crowd it has to be said (excluding the Pompey faithful who were there out of duty), the next 3 matches will I think reveal a lot about promotion credentials

    Sheff Utd away
    Stevenage home
    Tranmere home

It will be good to have Boucard and Sheehan back for probably 2 of the matches, and see if the side needs plan B with Showumni battering their centre-halves.

Home wins and away draw would be perfect of course but 4/5 points may be the outcome, any more and I will be pleased, 3 draws strangely might also be ok!

    Update to follow!

Well its been 3 matches and what a week!

I could only attend one match due to work, but firstly a massive point at Sheff Utd, hard fought, brave if a little fortunate at times.

This set Notts up well for an important match against Stevenage against who I expected a tight encounter, against the 'mood hoovers.' The match reverted to type as a dull affair which only came to life with 2 penalties awarded to the home team. Both were awarded due to clumsy defending rather that cynical fouls but were probably justified. With one missed and the other scored, Notts committed what could only described as hari-kari. Some say it was incorrect substitutions, my view individual mistakes. How Leacock could allow their forward to turn in Sherman tank like manner and get a shot in I will never know, and what was Sheehan doing handling like that? Only he'll know.

Notts's fragile defence was again totally at fault for a really scruffy winner . Fair play to Stevenage for knicking a game they never deserved to win, but you can understand why they get 2,500 even though they have an effective game plan.

This sort of loss along side 3 matches in a week and injuries and suspensions biting hard tends to have a negative effect and it seems like today Tranmere totally deserved their 3 points. So finally, the table shows 7th position one point outside playoff position, its still early but a good performance and result is needed to get confidence back.

Greg Abbot the carlisle boss said after the game, there's nobody in this division that could make us look this bad today? well we just did lol.

and i love the bbc stats for the game, we had 3 shots??????? scored 4 goals hit the post and bar and there keeper made some good saves.........yet we only had 3 shots????? i wonder who gets paid for putting the stats on a web page,i could make up rubbish for a few quid.

Well, if we take the season in 3 match blocks, the previous one was not good! One point against the blades, 3 points lost against the mood hoovers and a tame home defeat against 'funny money' Tranmere.

So far 2 away wins at Carlisle and another at Cov, Bournemouth on Tuesday - hope to have good news to report soon!

Looks like Graham Turner is going to need to steady the ship at Shrews soon (as predicted) <doh>
