Watching Charlton this year is so poor. We have had 1 good display Blackburn and 1 acceptable display Leicester other than that they have all been woeful. I am glad we have 2 away games in a row as we might actually get a chance to get some points. Our away games this season have been a lot harder than our home games imo but we have picked up more points away, if our home form doesn't improve I don't know how we will fair at the end of the season.
Therewas not a lot to be said in favour of today's performance. First half we were inept and allowed ourselves to be bullied off the ball by a physical side. We had flashes of inspiration only to find that Fuller playing as our striker couldnt be bothered to make the effort to get forward. If he was as unfit as his performance suggested it is not surprising that he pulled a hamstring on the only time he made an effort. Hollands substitution was definitely over due and it was good to see cp reacting to a clear problem. Hamer's over reaction to Green is a concern. He has to understand team responsibility. Interesting to see the ref warming up with the Barnsley players in one of their yellow t shirts. He was definitely their twelfth man throughout the match with selective vision aided and abetted by one of his linos. If there was a refereees assessor in attendance he will have a difficult job allowing the man to ref another match. In his defence we were so poor it probably didnt make that much of a difference. Only two players stood out on our side Morrison and Solly although Kerkar shone in places.
Alright first game i've seen since Forest away (saw Palace on the tele but won't count it) We were poor, really poor, we couldn't pass, we couldn't shoot, cross, head or anything else you need to win a match. Disappointing performance to give in front of 26,000 fans, who will want to come back if they see dross like this every week, what granted we've seen recently. But that was an abysmal performance from everyone. Wilson and Kerkar for me were the only two players to come out with any pride in my opinion. Wilson seemed at times stretched at the back defensively but going forward he seemed to cause problems and I am so glad he is doing well for himself, will mean once Wiggins comes back, even though Solly will go back to RB we will feel like we have a good back up for RB and he may even go at RM in my opinion. The rest of the team were really poor. Solly was committed as usual but seemed to get done in and give away a foul a lot, he was also like pretty much everyone related to Charlton in some way was losing his temper as the match went on. The ref, well he had a good game....until the 60th minute when he seemed like he lost control, when Solly and the oppostion got booked for a little clash after Solly had apparently done a foul, even though 30 second earlier Kerkar had been fouled and it was ignored. The penalty appeal no idea, I thought the player got solly first then the ball but i might be wrong. But the Barnsley players, although they play well and like to get it on the ground and play there were still a very very physical team and our players got very little protection and some of them got away with murder. Overall poor game all round, we were defo the worse team and didn't deserve anything, lets hope Fuller isn't out for too long but with hamstrings can never tell. Oh and I've said it all season and some will defend him but I just can't see a good point.... Pritchard is so so poor, when we need a goal bring on hulse and play a 4-3-3 rather then a CM at RM ><
My final time seeing Charlton for at least a year, what an awful performance, no urgency, came out 2nd in every 50/50, too angry to write more.
I thought Pritchard as relatively decent when he came on, better than captain fantastic and some of the other lads. Thought Razak was one of the brighter sparks in the first half so it was a shame to see him subbed at half time even though I liked the intent behind the half tme substitutions
Surprised that some thought the ref had a good game. One of the worst I've seen in a while. But the beauty of football is how we all perceive it differently
my one word description for today was "limp". just no urgency. we NEED to get waggy back, he's all about urgency
I still think our problem is CM. Teams come to the Valley and just walk straight through our midfield with a few passes. None of them played well although Razak was probably played too far forward. Especially unfair to single out Pritchard, the performance was poor long before he came on. I'd like to see our POTY restored to RB with Wilson in front of him, you wouldn't have seen all those crosses (and the goal) that Barnsley got in from their left. If The Doctor doesn't trust Evina he could do worse than play Fox at LB.
I'm a big Waggy fan, yes he's all about urgency but lacks direction. Just at the moment I see little direction in the Charlton camp. Other than a downward one. Chris Powell needs to assess where we are, what we lack, can he cover the cracks with the squad he's got. Once he knows how he wants us to play & more importantly the team know & are able to then we can start looking forward to the winter. Rather than the long dark winter I feel we have coming up. (Plus Waggy may get some fresh ideas to bring back & allow him to push on to reclaim his 1st team spot. As for today, disappointingly poor, looked like the team spent the international break keeping away from each other, with their feet up, rather than working for each other and practising running for the ball.
Rasak was our best player by far so very odd substitution by CP though don't know why BWP was ever dropped we have made zero chances for him this season so what is he to do.we were woeful from the off lethargic uninterested or so it seemed to me. But credit Barnsley they totally outplayed out passed us and deserved the win though solly should of deffo had pen bring on Leeds
Too angry to write anything yesterday. The sort of day that makes me wonder why I bother. Hated everything about it from wading through hordes of one time visitors and their kids to the bloody woman behind me with her bony knees in my back and her kid who talks relentless shyte for 90 minutes to one of the most inept displays I have seen in years and I include the Parkinson era in that! Utterly inept. Tactically clueless. And more worrying than anything it's the team I'd have picked myself from what we have available. Don't lets spend our time anymore debating whether Fred should be on the left or right or whether Joe should be further forwards or 433 versus 451. The increasingly compelling evidence is that a considerable number of our squad are simply not good enough. This my friends is going to be one long hard season I'll take fourth from bottom right now. And you can stick your football for a fiver right up...good morning. Miserable of Dartford.
Barnsley did a professional job on us, we have e soft centre, and the warning signs were there last season, when we often managed to get a result despite being outpassed by quite a few teams. Barnsley knew what they were doing, kept the ball on the ground passed it around right from the start and other teams will do the same. Perkins ran the midfield for them but then again he always seemed to have someone to pass to whenever he got the ball.Considering that Damien Matthew is the first team coach the lack of movement is surprising because you could never say that about his under-18 teams. We don't have anyone at the club who is better than Stephens, Hollands Pritchard and JJ, so the only answer is for them to up their game somehow. JJ seems better playing forward in a 4-5-1 so that's what I'd do. Bring Wilson in at RM, Solly at RB and give Evina his chance at LB.
