Colin apologises for "tonne of bricks" comment

From my other posts it should be obvious my view on the chanting. Frankly it disgusts me, and nothing whatever would be lost from football if it ended tomorrow. But Sheldon I think you're dead wrong on this. I don't bury my head in the sand, but i don't buy into this new line in shame we're doing either. And Dave Jones, a man with high public visibility, has just reinforced a harmful preconception. Consider that a club's reputation is self-proliferating; everyone "knows" leeds fans are scum, therefore treat them as scum. The uneducated amongst our fans then feel vilified and lash out as the uneducated will. And so it continues.

Put it this way, what's more likely- that the city of Leeds creates inherently worse human beings than another city a few miles down the road- or that a "reputation" once acquired is damned hard to shake. And the silent, decent majority suffer unwarranted prejudice for the actions of people with whom they have nothing in common but the club they happen to follow.

 

I can see why we disagree Jake. I can put myself into this man's shoes and see the hurt he will have felt and understand his reaction - while I also said right from the beginning that I did not agree with what he said. I have never agreed with what he said.

Have you seen the Ray Fell interview on tv? He is saying exactly the same thing as me. The contexxt of interviewing him at such an emotional time leads to these problems, and he can understand why those things werre said, while not agreeing with them and would like to see an apology when Jones is ready.

But the reaction by "the uneducated" (your words) accusing him of being a nonce, pervert, *****phile serves to validate what he said. Instead of letting a dignified silence, alongside the very dignified outpouring of abhorrence of the acts in the stadium of chanting by both teams and the attack, show that the majority of fans at LUFC are good.

Dave Jones' (or anyone else's) comments will be judged by others how they wish - we can only be in control of our own destiny, and if immediately jumping down the guy's throat with libellous tripe is dignified, then call me Rumpelstiltskin.

If we act with dignity, we will minimise the damage that Jones could ever do.

As a generalisation of all Leeds fans he was wrong. But in describing you as a "vile animal" and "scum", I have to agree that he wasn't too wide of the mark, ristac.

I have continued to debate the exact same point - I can understand why Jones said such a thing while not agreeing with it - while you and a few others have constantly tried to deflect and move it to other areas and prove he was right about you.
