http://www.nufcblog.com/2012/10/18/newcastles-transfer-business-is-so-thorough-looks-great/

Alan Pardew has explained to Newcastle fans today with an interview in the Evening Chronicle, just how the club does its transfer business, and there’s also news that Newcastle have expanded their scouting area to include places like Romania and Serbia, as well as France, Holland and Belgium.

And of course graham Carr heads up Newcastle’s ever-growing scouting network, and Pardew explained how he works with Graham, whom he rarely sees because he’s always on the road checking out players.

“I like Graham, I hardly ever see him. You’d be surprised how much I talk to him!” “What happens is Graham goes out and gets a list of, say, eight players. Right now we are in the middle of the next window.”

“The process, so our fans are clear on it, is this: We have about seven names for a center-half. He’ll give me what he thinks are his best two options. Then it comes down to football secretary Lee Charnley. He will contact the clubs.

“Sometimes somebody linked to the club might be an agent who works with the club. They will say what the value of the player might be.” “It is always a ‘possibly’ because you are never able to negotiate what the actual figure will be.”

“We had that problem with Debuchy. The figure that was told to us was way off the figure the club wanted.” “We thought that something was out of keel and that’s why we felt bad about the deal.” “Then there are the personal terms of what the player could ‘possibly have’.”

“The top two of Graham’s choices may have gone. We might be down to one of Graham’s and three others.” “Then it will come into my lap. Then I really take a vested interest in how many times Graham has watched these guys and the clubs they’ve been at. I’ll talk to my backroom team.”

“Graham isn’t doing that all by himself – he has his own foot soldiers to get those seven names.” “By that process we’re down to say two and I’ll see Derek Llambias and say, ‘This is what we think they’ll cost and how much they want, we’ve watched them 10 times, I’ve analysed it and I’m happy’.”

“That’s what happened with Cabaye. Then it is a case of ‘Can we get them?’ Then we see if Mike Ashley and Derek can do the deal. Ultimately Mike has to say to Derek, yes or no. Derek manages the budget.”

This is good information from Alan and it really seems that Newcastle have the transfer procedure under good control and it’s well worked out.

It seems if a layer comes into the cub he has been vetted multiple ways and hopefully can become a success wat the club.

We didn’t get enough players in the summer but Gael Bigirimana and Vurnon Anita look to have been two great buys for the club.

Sorry but as far as Anita is concerned, average is probably a kind reflection of his impact so far this season for me. I honestly don't see much in the lad

Anita, considering his high transfer fee relative to our other dealings, has been way below the mark. He's looked alright-ish at RB and a long way out of his depth in midfield. Hopefully he just needs to adapt but I'm really disappointed in him so far.

    Bigi has been great though.

Far too early to judge really. But I personally see potential in him. Some people are being unfair to the lad. He's had to play CDM, CM and RB already! And he's only played a handfull of games.

If he hasn't shown anyone any quality yet, he's at least shown he can be versatile.

He shown me good aggression and good tackling. He's good on the ball. His passing is good.

One thing that no one else seems to notice is how well he marks players. He sticks with his man so ****ing well. I remember one of his first games at fullback, there was a point where a winger/striker was making a run into the side of our defence. Anita followed the run, got infront of the player, who was taller and bigger than him, and made a fantastic defensive header.

There are numerous examples of him doing this.

He's not been great yet, but he's shown great defensive qualities to me.

Anita will be a good squad player.... Big I looks to have bags of potential.

This weekend will be a good test of both these players if they get the chance to come on.... If the atmosphere does not grip them and push them then nothing will.... For me though big I looks the better buy....ATM.

I think Anita can be more than a squad player. I don't understand how people can tell a players future from a handfull of games.

When we play our best football, Anita is exactly the sort of player we really could use. Quick, skillfull and creative.

Time will tell with Anita. The time to judge him will be 18 months in like all foreign players. They always take a season or so. Gervinho is a great example at Arsenal. Solano here. Even english players like Perch coming from lower leagues need time to adapt. Patience is the key.

Anita is still adjusting to the pace of the Premier League in my opinion. We saw it with Enrique, Colo, Perch and now him. His pace is great, as Tash said - his movement and positional awareness is good. He just needs to get used to the higher tempo and I think he'll be class. The thing that everyone said about him, was that he did the dirty work, the tracking back, the tidying up - he did that and then gave a simple pass to a more creative midfielder. I think he was bought with the intention of playing in a 4,2,1,3 (Him and Tiote sat just behind Cabaye in midfield).

O Ye Great Peruvian. I admire thee. Gracing your presence among us...............

Seriously though, Anita needs time, just like Perchy did.

And yet I am perplexed why the same argument isn't used when we're talking about players like Gosling <doh>

Not every player we sign will fit in straight away like cabaye and tiote. Anita will be fine once he settles properly. Ajax's academy produce top top players. The lad will come good.

People are forgetting it's taken Santon a fair while too - only just now showing his potential really, thankfully, he looks fantastic.

I think we should give Anita time - Pards defs needs to ease him into the team though as he;s done with others.

I know but Gosling has been playing in the league for ages and just looks a bit turd! I feel for the lad as many forget how serious his injuries were. Its robbed him of the physical levels required for this league.

In this era, we wouldn't be paying nearly 7m for a squad player. Therefore Pards has faith in him.

Well spotted ACS good thread. Interesting to to see how it works.

However I have 2 words to challenge this robust and thorough approach:

    Dan £@(?&¥€ Gosling

OK so it was 3 words but the additional one felt necessary.

A few months ago, Perch would've been a suitable counter-argument to this as well, but he has since swam out of that..

I wonder how much this differs from the scouting systems at other clubs.

Liverpool's is to look at highly rated (also known as over rated) players in the prem assess their Market value and offer two to three times their true worth to ensure securing the deal. Simples!
