You are right to criticise the cheapo tickets, Jimbo. I feel the same, to be honest. But it would be good to see more incentives aimed at getting kids to attend.

If there were cheap tickets for families, then they would only be valid if the children were actually there. I suppose a big, clear marking like 'CHECK THE KIDS!' would be needed for the turnstile operators.

About ten years ago when I was commuting into London and my kids were small and I vainly hoped that they would be interested in football I won the phone in competition in the Evening Standard. The prize was a family ticket for five to Highbury for arsenal v WBA ( we were away to Sunderland so I thought it would pass a day for free and be a bit of Daddy bonding). The Arsenal. PR girl rang me up with the details and said "as it's a family ticket could we ask you to bring at least one person who looks under 18!l. Made me laugh.

I think the idea was great, and it worked early, but results worked better.

I don't care about the prices compared to a ST, because the ST is your commitment to guarantee your seat and provide the club with off season funds etc etc. I don't want to have to hope they do enough deals that I can keep it similar or cheap and hope that they never sell the seat I like.

But my only problem with the £5 deal is some of the people that come along. Kids great, good for the families etc. However, I sit in the East Stand, and have done for 15 years. As things got worse in terms of league position, you had the moaners. The Curbishley grumblers, the people that couldn't accept that we weren't the best team in the league every week, that got even worse in the Championship etc etc. These are the people that come back, to see if things got better. Then they moan at the quality of our current players and laugh at opposition. If we're not 3-0 in 10 minutes they're bored again and they're no fun to be around. These people have been our Valley problem for years.

Sorry HB - I just bought a load of tickets for some friends in the east stand. Hopefully they don't annoy you too much <laugh>

I like the morals(ish)/idea of it. I'm afraid it just doesn't work properly

I see the average price of the cheapest tickets in the whole Football League has gone up by 11.7%, 5 times the rate of inflation. Those clubs who take the fans' loyalty for granted in order to rip them off deserve to be rewarded with small gates, (eg Palace). Having paid £240 for 2 season tickets I'm not too bothered about the odd "Fiver" day.

Hi, Clark! Aren't you tempted to try it? You could nip down quickly in the Valley Express!

Ahh Major.... I see you haven't lost your love for Charlton since the old 606 days <laugh>

You must get lost in that 'massive' ground of Wednesday's :) This proper ground is un-modernised since 96 Liverpool fans died there isn't it?

Well it is modernised in the sense that there is no terracing anymore. And if your trying to lay the blame at what happened to the 96 at the door of hillsborough then you're very much mistaken. That disaster could have happened anywhere in the country, and as has been established recently the police are to blame

You know what I love about hillsborough? Those giant pillars that block out parts of the pitch. Proper ground <doh>

Looks like your 2 teams could well play each other next season, which wouldn't disappoint me too much.

I love how major put Gillingham in the same sentence as Sheffield Wednesday as if they're somehow on a par. I'm sure the Owls are delighted with this.

I actually like Hillsborough, the upper tier anyway. Couldn't imagine going lower tier Leppings Lane end, though, for obvious reasons.

I think they should make kids tickets more expensive than adult ones, they get in the way and run around the concourses and kick the back of your seat and cry and most of them don't even watch the game but play on their Gameboys, if they are going to let kids into the ground they should ONLY be allowed into the North West Quadrant which should be kids only, all other areas should be 16+ year olds only, in my opinion.

I think all the kids should be put at the far end of the East stand, to keep the away fans company

Bit unfair to segregate the kids. They are the future of the club.
