because the other players competing for a midfield spot are better? there's 7 other MF/AM/FW players trying to fight for 5 places supporting the central striker. 8 including Modric. He didn't even make it on as a sub against Barca. yet Kaka who everyone has written off, and the ageing Essien, did.

He's a good player, but it's a different story now he's at RM.

Pretty much exactly what I said the other day Roo. He's up against Ozil - who's a class act for the CAM role, Xabi Alonso - who after Xavi & Iniesta is probably the best passer in the league and then the DM role is Khedira's who's up there with Busquets, Toure & co in terms of defensive midfielders and then if he tries to compete for a place on the wings, Ronaldo and Di Maria will laugh in his face. Modric is a fantastic player (albeit a massive c*nt too) but fact is he's not just moved to a big club, he's moved to arguably THE club in terms of competition for places with superstar players. Look at some of the players in the past who've failed to make a proper impact at Madrid - Sneijder, van der Vaart, Woodgate, Owen, Robben, Cambiasso = All of these are/ were top drawer, dare I say some are/ were world class players. If he thought going to Madrid would be as easy as getting into the team as it was here, he's in for a massive shock.

Essien is on loan and I doubt his move will become permanent. Kaka is approaching 31 and is nowhere near the player he was when Madrid parted with £50m for his services. Alonso too is 31 next month! Modric has only just turned 27 years old. Time is on his side as I've previously said.

Modric is the most flexible midfielder at Real Madrid & i have no doubts that he will gradually get more and more game time. Anyway its not even 2 months since his move, during which Madrid have played 8 times in all competitions with Modric featuring 4 times. Hardly some outcast some of you are portraying him as.

Its quite sad that Spurs fans are so bitter about one of their greatest servants in the last decade, yet clowns like David Bentley who are comparable in terms of price tag get away scott free, milking the club for millions with absolutely no return.

If you think Bentley gets away scot free, you clearly don't read this board very often. Why would we not be upset with Modric? He said, effectively, that he was too good for our club and left, despite signing a contract to stay here. Can't have a lot of respect from Spurs fans for that behaviour.

And I think you seemed to have turned a blind eye at the terrible behaviour he showed his employers over the past two summers. Begging for a move to one of our fierce rivals and informing the manager his "head isn't right" and then throwing his toys out the pram and refusing to travel with the squad on the pre-season tour to America the following summer. Yes Modric is a fantastic player and in a strange way it's nice to know players are linked with the likes of Madrid but had he not been a complete unprofessional pr*ck and show no respect to anyone at Spurs, especially fans who idolised him, he would have gone with our best wishes and blessings.

Bentley does not get away scott-free, he's had more abuse than most Spurs players and I've heard idiots in the crowd boo his name when named in the squad which is disgusting, no matter how bad a player has played. Baring in mind 99% of Spurs fans want him gone - myself included - I don't see how he's had any let offs.

if Modric had left like a gentlemen he would still be one of my favourite players. Same with Berbatov. But, the fact is they both behaved like spoilt little children who think they are better than they actually are (they are both very good, world class even but their opinions of themselves seem to be stratospheric)
Personally i hope Modric ends up rotting on the bench for 2 years and then ends up at some arse-end of nowhere club like Middlesbrough. I would like it if his career followed a similar path to Mendietta.

His behaviour was, unprofessional, selfish, and showed a complete lack of respect for his teammates, and the club in general. Yes, he's a good player, but, Ozil is a better one!..

Personally I would be ashamed to air such bitterness in public but hey ho, each to their won. I guess it could be worse, some idiot over on JA606 wished he broke his leg <doh>

Anyway chaps, I do appreciate your angle on the whole topic. I can relate, after all - I too am a Spurs fan and was disappointed to see the player / agent fish for a move so crassly. However I also appreciate that a move to Real Madrid to team up with the likes of Ronaldo and Kaka is too big a call to ignore. We all have careers, you too would probably do what it takes if a chance to reach the pinnacle presented itself to you.

It's not bitterness. Carrick was allowed to leave and the vast majority accepted it, as they did with Sheringham.

We have every right to be upset when a player tells the fans he wants the squad to stick together with or without CL football then 2 months down the line tries to engineer a move to Chelsea, going on strike despite being only 1 year into a 6 year deal. To then repeat the act next year, refusing to fulfill his end of the contract by even training made him a ****. The worst thing is that I and others were willing to overlook that and were hoping he did well in La Liga as he's such a great player to watch but then he turns around and starts tapping one of our players.

I wouldn't go as far as to say that I want him to break his leg but if he did break it, I wouldn't give a ****.

    Complete bollox.

He went to Madrid for a challenge. There was n challenge in getting a starting place in the spurs 11.

Slating him for having ambition Not playing it safe and wanting to win things. If Bale wants to win medals and trophies he will leave, if he is happy to just get his game every week without hassle, he'll stay, strikes me as a big fish in a small pond anyways, also 40m <doh> Not a hope

Too right, I still applaud Carrick when he returns to the Lane, he left professionally and never kicked up a fuss or anything and as for Teddy- he's a legend.

I hope every other club and their manager & chairman share your view. That way they won't sniff around our star player.

well said SOS, but don't forget Mcmanaman!! <laugh><ok>

Who cares whether Essien is on loan or not? he's there for a year and he's currently getting a game ahead of Modric! Same for Kaka, which is even more embarrassing as he was portrayed in the transfer window as some bloke who no one wanted! you make it seem like 31 is old. lol. tell that to Scholes and Lampard who are still top quality at 37 and 34, respectively. those players you mention have the ability and could still be there in 2 years time. Essien might even become permanent. the point still remains. Modric will struggle to play week in, week out.

so far he's made 5 appearances.
In 3 games he's been withdrawn 2/3 of the way through.
In 1 game he got a half, and the other he got 17 mins.

3 of those games were against Grenada, Vallecano and Deportivo. - funnily enough, that's the 3 games he got most game time. (weaker opposition i might add)
The 17 mins was against city and the half was against Seville.
In addition, he hasn't played this month, not featuring against Ajax or Barca.

you've only got to look at those stats to come to the conclusion that he's down the pecking order. - which was all my point was.

as for you last comment, SOS, SD, NSIS and Spurm have made that one very clear.

all these "you're bitter" comments are ridiculous.

How can fellow spurs fans call one another "bitter" over Modric's departure, when he displayed such disgusting behaviour to get his move? firstly with chelsea, then this summer.

notice how no one says anything about Rafa? yeah, because he remained professional and dealt with his move in the correct way, what ever his reasons. - we all wish him well.

how anyone can defend Modric's behaviour is beyond me. wake up.

Yes, you're right £40mil is ridiculous. They haven't got a hope of getting him for that price. Let's try more like £60-80mil!..
