Just my opinion but although MLT's comments are vague to say the least, they may be about how Cortese treats staff behind the scenes, and perhaps whether NA has been given a deadline to turn performances into points.

I could be wrong but if this is what Le Tiss is suggesting we already know it's Cortese's aim to run the club as a self sustaining business but we (I) don't know how inefficient it was (if it was) before. Cortese might just be making the kind of management decisions re staffing, perks etc that may be needed but are never popular. What the decisions are, and whether they are really necessary for the sake of the business who knows!

I also wouldn't be surprised If Cortese has given NA a deadline. Im certain NC expects NA to perform better than the teams current position but wheter expectations have risen since the money spent on Ramirez (a la Hughes at Man City) only NA or NC know.

As DM would say, what we don't want now is a Mr Softee running the club, he doesn't have to be a nice guy to keep the Club alive.

Le Tiss has his opinion on Cortese and that's fine by me .They have both done the well by the club in their own way's and I can never find it in myself to criticise one of the best footballers to wear the famous red and white stripes .Call me old fashioned but for me the game is about great players and we were priveledged to have player with legendary talent in the form of LeTiss who was admired and respected by football fans of all clubs and was someone we were proud of in an otherwise average era for the team generally.I don't feel the need to stick up for Nicola as he looks well capable of looking after himself and as I have said he to has done well but its a fair point that people should be judged in the fullness of time through thick and thin as so far it's been pretty plain sailing and long may it continue.

Le Tissier will always be a Saints legend and 100% Saints supporter - even long after Nicola Cortese has ridden off into the sunset.
Cortese would seem to be managing SFC affairs OK, but i am still slightly apprehensive about where it might all end so making the best of it while it lasts. Le Tiss is only expressing his opinion and the media are reporting it - he obviously doesnt like everything that is going on at SFC, and somehow i doubt if he is totally wrong about Cortese.

Exactly - anybody calling Le Tissier names like that is one themselves, got a very short memory or most probably a kid who never saw the way that he played for Saints season after season, keeping us in the top divsion almost single-handed some seasons. Shame on you.

    Who called him that?

And his past contributions, peerless as they may be, don't excuse the damage he could do to our future if he continues down this path.

Sometimes it comes to pass that two people don't like each other and that is sad but such is life.
Matt is a Saints football lifetime hero no question - but as a businessman is he as good as NC ?
These days Saints need a businessman running the club and as someone else said businessmen
who want to succeed have to make very unpopular decisions. Another point in his defence NC
has never to my knowledge ( and I could be wrong big time here ) has never publicly said as much
about Matt as Matt has hinted about NC.

Final point the NZ Prime Minister has just told our Leader of the Opposition to "Put up or shutup" about
a serious allegation. I very politely suggest Matt does the same.

The underlined bits are why MLT's comments are a problem, IMO.

If he said "Cortese is doing X, Y and Z whereas I think he should be doing A B and C" we'd have a clue what he's talking about. Instead, he says "not nice" and we put two and two together and get five.

Just to clarify, GoSaint, not having a go, just using your post to point out where this all leads.

    Le Tissier - Magnificent footballer
Cortese - Not a magnificent footballer
Cortese - Integral in the rebuilding of Southampton Football Club back to a Premiership team
Le Tissier - Celebrations Night Club

    There you go.

Can't argue with that Onionman, my comments are nothing more than speculation. It would help if MLT could give a bit more substance to his comments so we can actually be talking about them rather than him.

Matt didn't just play football he graced the football pitch and he did it for the Saints and Saints only, one of the few players who would kiss the badge and meant it . Most players have no loyalty to any one club as they would in general have probably played for four or five .Look at the end of the day he has had a pop at Cortese big deal i am sure Nicola is quaking in his boots both probably have egos the size of Ashley Cole's bank balance.Matt should probably shut up but obviously cant but for me he will always be held in the esteem his services to SFC warrant

Of course he could be - but as far as i am concerned he isnt, and i never thought that i would see the day when Saints supporters were calling him one.
He was too good for too long for this club, and could have went anywhere in his heyday but he didnt - instead he stayed here. This loyalty earned mine, plus that of many other Saints supporters who watched him, in return. Cortese is doing OK at the moment - but how long will it last for ? I hope that it goes on for ever but ....
I dont agree with calling Le Tissier a t--- just because he does not see eye to eye with Cortese - he has an opinion and being who he is the media will print it.

I wouldn't call him a twat either, but we don't know the real matt do we?. As for loyal hmm, if you call turning down Spurs because they offered the same wages loyal then yeah he is.

What I would like in order of preference:

    1. Cortese to be a great person and successful Chairman of Saints.
    2. Cortese to be not nice but a successful Chairman of Saints.
    3. Cortese is Mother Teresa but a rubbish Chairman.

    If I can't have 1, I will settle for 2.

Cortese had a run in with Benali who is a friend of Matty...would guess he is referring mainly to that. I will always have the greatest respect for Matt as a player and for his loyalty to Saints, but this doesn't really do anyone any good.

In terms of top professional footballers Matt Le Tessier was certainly loyal to Saints ! I am sure that he had various chances to go elsewhere in addition to Spurs, and any of the top teams could have offered him more money than Saints could pay him. I have never seen/heard a Saints supporter question Le Tissiers loyalty to Saints before now.
