Re: Barton involved in bust-up during Marseille friendly If Joey were a bit younger they could have used him in this squad for his natural abilities.

    This from Yahoo

....England Under-21 players were subjected to racist abuse from the crowd and had missiles hurled at them as their game against Serbia descended into violence.

The Football Association has reported "a number of incidents of racism" following the 2-0 aggregate play-off win in Krusevac.

Defender Danny Rose was sent off after the final whistle, having apparently responded angrily to monkey taunts from the crowd.

Scuffles also broke out when supporters invaded the field moments after Connor Wickham scored in injury time to seal the win - and England's place in the U21s European Championships next summer.

Steve Wigley, one of the England coaching staff, was also involved in the trouble and had to be restrained after reportedly being punched at least once in the face.

A statement from the FA read: "The FA condemns both the scenes of racism and the confrontation at the final whistle during which time our players and staff were under extreme provocation.

"The FA has reported a number of incidents of racism to Uefa following the fixture.

"These were seemingly aimed at a number of black England players by the crowd. The matter is now with Uefa."

England manager Stuart Pearce said Serbia's technical director Savo Milosevic had visited the England dressing room to apologise.

"I never like to see any football matches end like that," Pearce told ESPN.

"I think there were one or two racist incidents that came on from the crowd. It's in (Uefa's) hands now.

"It's very sad, to be fair, but we're united as a team. I'm very proud of the reaction of our players."

From someone who's origins are in the same region, serbian football does still have a problem with racism particularly at the international level. Matches are attended almost exclusively by ultras, essentially thugs often with links to the mafia and other organisations. Football certainly in the terraces in Serbia is very similar to 80s over here. The red star-partizan Belgrade derby makes millwall west ham look like a playground scuffle. However you shouldn't judge a country by its football fans.

The FA condemns the scenes of racism.

These are the same people who refused to drop John Terry from the England team after he behaved in a similar racist way against Anton ferdinand.

Then it took them a full year to do anything about it and they banned him for only 4 matches.

Now, they want Uefa to do something against the Serbian FA.

I know the two incidents are not exactly the same but is it only me who thinks the English FA are the biggest hypocrites going when it comes to racism? Practice what you preach and all that???? Treat others as you would like to be treated yourself???

A joke but the truth. The US and Germany heavily influenced the situation with German recognition of Croatia as an independent state really pushing things over the edge.

Nothing to worry about according to the Serb manager, it was our fault!

But the coach from the Balkan nation says that England have to shoulder some of the blame.

“I do not see any reason to apologise for what happened,” Jankovic told Mondo.

“You know that you need two sides to have a fight, not just one.

“I did not see exactly what happened, but I repeat that you need two sides to fight.

The Serbian FA today denied any forms of racism towards the England Under-21 team last night and said defender Danny Rose behaved in an “inappropriate, unsportsmanlike and vulgar manner” towards their fans.

The official statement comes after the English FA made complaints to UEFA, backed by Prime Minister David Cameron and Sports Minister, while Rose - a Totenham defender currently on loan at Sunderland - called for Serbia to be banned for the abuse directed at him.

Aleksandar Jankovic, the Serbian coach, also insisted that England were equally to blame for the violence that errupted after the final whistle as home supporters threw missles onto the pitch while players and officials were involved in a series of scuffles.

In a statement on its website, the Serbian FA said: “(The) FA of Serbia absolutely refuses (sic) and denies that there were any occurrences of racism before and during the match at the stadium in Krusevac.

“Making connection between the seen incident - a fight between members of the two teams - and racism has absolutely no ground and we consider it to be a total malevolence.

“Unfortunately, after the fourth minute of the additional time and the victory goal scored by the guest team, unpleasant scenes were seen on the pitch.

“And while most of the English team players celebrated the score, their player number three, Danny Rose, behaved in inappropriate, unsportsmanlike and vulgar manner towards the supporters on the stands at the stadium in Krusevac, and for that he was shown a red card.”

The Serbian FA maintains they made the England fans and team feel welcome throughout the duration of their stay in the country but following the brawl in the final stages they will now launch an internal investigation.

The statement said: “The Football Association of Serbia apologises to the guests from England and the overall football community because of the unsportsmanlike behaviour of a part of the technical staff and players of the Serbian U-21 team.

“By this we inform the overall public that we will, as a matter of urgency, start an internal disciplinary procedure and punish the culprits after reviewing all the reports.

“It will be done whether a disciplinary procedure by the responsible UEFA bodies will be started or not.

“Furthermore, we will not either accept the fact that our players and members of the technical staff were provoked by the gesture of the English player Rose, since violence has no place at sports events.

“To be honest, we expect the same investigation from the English FA.”

The Serbian FA has supported their belief there were no racist chants during the game as nothing was included in the match reports.

“In support of our statement, there are preliminary reports of the match officials at the match (between) Serbia (and) England.

“None of them mentioned a racist situation and we expect that the human and sports culture of our football friends from England will win over the spread of misinformation.”

To quote from Oslo's post... " defender Danny Rose behaved in an inapropriate unsportsmanlike and vulgar manner. "

Christ on a bike, talk about trying to defend the indefensible. He didn't do anything wrong as far as I could see.

Rob Hulse, et al. kick the ball into the crowd every week instead of the net.

If there was no racism, they why did Danny Rose kick the ball into the crowd and make a "gorilla" type gesture as he walked off the field?

If the match official has not reported any racism in his report, then I can only conclude that he is a racist.

Can see both teams being fined for bringing the game into disrepute and hopefully a ban for Serbia.

Looks like the Serbian FA have played their Trump Card.

By playing ignorant it's likely they'll escape with a hefty fine, worst case scenario suspended ban. Admitting to the problem would most likely have meant explulsion from future tournaments.

You could hear the Monkey chants in that Video! they don't have a leg to stand on, be interesting to see what Sepp Blatter and his dummies will do, watch for a whitewash! It's like going back 40 years ago in this country, Serbia unfortunately has some serious social issues still, but then don't we all. They'll just get a slap on the wrist in the form of a £100,000 fine, you watch................<ok>
