QPR chief Fernandes: Hughes will prove the âarmchair criticsâ wrong QPR chairman Tony Fernandes issues his backing again for Mark Hughes despite Hoops' poor start to the new season ShareCommentsBy TSR staff 6:44pm UK, Sunday 14 October 2012 Mark Hughes' side are without a win in the Premier League this termPhoto: The Sport Review Queens Park Rangers chairman Tony Fernandes has once again issued his full backing for Mark Hughes, insisting the Welshman will turn the clubâs fortunes around and prove the critics wrong. The Hoops find themselves propping up the Premier League table after managing to claim just two points from their opening seven games, despite a host of big-name arrivals during the summer transfer window. The poor run of form has inevitably put Hughesâ position in the spotlight but Fernandes insists he is pleased with how QPR have been playing and has no doubt that they will soon work their way up the table. âIf the team was playing badly, if the dressing room was dispirited then you would have to say somethingâs not right, but the team is playing well,â Fernandes told Sky Sports. âWe have given away goals and we have critical injuries in critical places. âUnfortunately or fortunately we are a higher profile club, we are five points away from being in the middle and you donât see the other clubs getting the kind of pressure weâre getting but that comes with the territory. âSo no panic. Markâs done it in Fulham, heâs done it in Blackburn and I have got to say even at Manchester City, the core championship side were players Mark brought in. âHe has my full confidence and I hope I am proven right in a big way that can answer all these armchair critics.â
I can't explain why but I think he is right. IF we can keep our players fit, I can see us putting together a good run over the next few months.
I'm not an an Arm Chair Critic, I'm a supporter !!! not panicking at all, I think even Hughes will eventually stumble upon the correct formula, the players are good enough.
I agree. Our players are good enough and I expect to see an upturn in our fortunes very soon. Unfortunately, if the upturn doesnt happen, there will be only one person to blame. As regards armchair critics, I listened to TF on QPR world and he specifically said "critics and armchair critics". The critics bit would refer to fans criticising and the armchair critics bit would refer to people outside the club. He definetely did not call QPR fans armchair critics.
"all these critics and armchair critics". A supporter (who criticises) would be a critic a non-supporter would be an armchair critic. Thats my take on it.
Not really. Having been to Norwich away, City away and West Brom away I am a critic on the train, on the bus, in the car and also on the terraces. It's not confined to my armchair.
Presumably the critics of Hughes, standing, sitting or lying down, will have to become critics of Tony if he stands by his man.
I don't think so, even if TF is uncertain, while MH is employed by the club he should stand up for him.
Appreciate Tone's valiant attempts to shore things up with some reassuring comments. Commendable from the man paying the exorbitant bills... But the problem's not in injuries or bad luck - it's in astonishingly poor squad preparation. Whilst shooting us critics is always a soft enough target, and God knows we'll take it if it helps, management should at least have listened to what was being said BEFORE a ball was kicked in anger: WE NEED A SOLID DEFENDER AND A GOAL GETTER to balance the side. Now, even from my armchair, I can see a poorly prepared defence, with just two dedicated CBs (Ferdinand and Nelsen) and two dedicated full backs (Bosingwa and Traore - both better going forward than checking attacking moves); and dearth of firepower up front. Surely even those present at every match would have to regard that defence as suspect: constituting at best a second string back four at most, if not all prem clubs this year. Where we have done well this term is midfield-generated fluency - but with only occasional goal scorer Zamora and a couple of midfielders (Taarabt and Granero) to capitalise on chances created, not too much likelihood of end product. (Btw, what HAVE we done with Cisse? Pale shadow of last year's assassin - and at a time we need one most.) To critics and armchair critics alike, this spells ever more goals conceded, too few scored and therefore nil points - which worries the **** out of little ol' blinkered me. It's those solid home defeats to the likes of Swansea, Reading and West Ham that have unsurprisingly set the alarms off. No point blaming those shouting 'FIRE!' at the third sign of smoke... And ask not for whom the bell tolls. Sorry Tone, but we're just all going to have to face it sooner rather than late... it clearly tolls for... (dare I say it?!).
Funny how if you sit on an armchair you can only praise, if you criticize then you're called clueless, rather ironic!
Tony's digging a big hole for himself if things don't pick up soon He may wish he'd been sitting in an armchair rather than digging the hole.
Dear R's fans, this is my very first post and maybe my last. I read all the comments/threads on this site and appreciate the passion many of you show for QPR. I would just like to remind you all that we were told that with the new management etc it is a long term project it's not just about the 90 minutes every week or so and there is so much that we can't possibly know about. Of course I, like you, all want to see the club win matches, and they will! No fan wants to see the R's go down and if TF has that confidence by implying MH will 'get us out of the drop zone' lets be encouraged by the support he is showing for the manager, I guess dozens of other managers would love to hear that from their superiors! I've supported the R's since just after the end of WW2, OK I rarely get to any games these days (I don't live 'local' any more) but I keep my eyes and ears glued to these various boards and subscribe to QPR Player. Enjoy the rest of the season!
I won't be popular for saying this, but I'm getting a bit pissed off with Tony. I am very CRITICal of Hughes. I have also spent over 1100 quid on season tickets plus all the match day expenses. I am going to Arsenal away and no doubt Reading away too. I am ****ing entitled to be CRITICal Tony.
