OK yes I know this is very early but I'm fed up with nothing Saints to talk about, Don't like these international breaks even though it may have done us a favour on the injury front.

I really really want to put one over Fat Sam on Saturday and I'm optimistic that we can get something from the game. Yes we will be without Gaston but they have shipped four goals against Wigan and three against Swansea and Arsenal so we can definitely get a goal. The ball will spend a lot of time high in the sky so if you're going binoculars may be required!

Defence will be key in particular keeping Carroll quiet so let's just hope Maya doesn't pick up an injury against Brazil tomorrow!

Injuries permitting I'd start with the team that played Fulham although if Mayuka hadn't been travelling back from Africa I might have picked him up front ahead of J-Rod.

    I'm going for a 2-1 Saints win!

    What do we all think?

    COYR!

If we stay organized at the back -- don't allow Carroll to win easy knockdowns, don't allow Jarvis to find space at the back post -- I like our chances of coming away with something. Make a couple mistakes at the wrong time, though, and it will be a long 90 minutes.

When I was looking at the numerous "Our next 'X' number of games" threads, I had this down as a defeat or a draw. Let's hope I was wrong.

I think Morgan will destroy them, but we will waste a few chances 2-0 saints. Lallana and Mayuka to score their first.

We are deffo as good as these if not slightly better. Somehow we have just got to be tight at the back and not make any stupid mistakes and we can nick this. My heart says 1-2 but my head says we will let Carroll in once too often and we will lose 2-1. So hoping the defence proves us wrong and we can actually keep a clean sheet. My boy predicts 0-2 and i have said a tenner is on his way if thats so. Anything to get us the win as they are all WH up here in sunny Essex.

3-0/1/2 West Ham, can't see anything else than their height tearing our defence a new one and playing long ball. We're obviously capable of scoring but to win this i'd say we need at least 3 goals.

I am a West Ham fan so will get that out the way first, so read on if you like.
I wanted to start by putting things right on the high ball front, we have played less high / long balls this year than both Barca and Real Madrid so that tag is just legacy and dull journalism. The 4 put past us by Wigan was the cup where we had the kids and returning from injury players and were undone by poor defending by the naive youngsters. The Arsenal game was a different story and got done on the counter attack by a great side. Swansea was again defensive errors and hopefully just a bad day at the office. Saturday will be a good game and one I am looking forward to seeing as Saints are a great footballing side and always a pleasure to watch and I think any traveling fans will be treated to a good game as opposed to the opinion in the article. I do think we will edge it but sincerely wish you all the best for the rest of the season and come May that you are still around. Your side is good enough to stay up.

I think our defence is on the improve, Yoshida, and Clyne are quality, Fonte is in form and Fox and Gazzanigga played well against Fulham. If they get the protection from the midfield they should be able to deal with West Ham's aerial threat.

They just need to gel there is individual quality there. And while you can say we have been let down by far too many individual errors once the defence gels there will be less pressure on the individual i.e the fullbacks marking 2 attacking threats.

Thanks mate.......I think the vast majority of us see it as a tight game too. Lets hope the side that plays best on the day wins and it is not decided on a dodgy penalty or some such.............

Agree with most of the above, the key person missing against Fulham for me was Morgan Schneiderlin. He gives the midfield a more defensive quality when it's needed.

If our centre backs have been training against Rickie Lambert, they ought to find Andy Carroll a piece of cake.

Schneiderlin was back for the Fulham game! Our defensive problems in that game were more down to Richardson going off injured early on, having to move Yoshida to RB and a low on confidence Jos to partner Fonte. Hopefully one of Clyne or Richardson will be back for this one!
