Five Royal Marines have been charged with murder over an incident in Afghanistan in 2011, the MoD has said.

It says nine marines were arrested over the incident, involving an insurgent. Four have been released without charge.

The five charged remain in custody, and the next stage of the process is likely to be trial by court martial.

The marines were arrested by the Royal Military Police after suspicious video footage was found on a serviceman's laptop by civilian police in the UK.

I have a wee problem with this. We are supposed to "play" by the rules but the insurgents can please themselves. Had it been civilians then yes they should be hammered.

I miss those videos from Iraq where a few hostages would be kneeling down with sacks on their heads trying to get some sort of unrealistic ransom, a week later they would hack the ****ers heads off with a sharp knife shouting alla is great or something along those lines...

Ah so it's OK to train young men (mostly worthless bastards who would have ended up draining the state tbf) send them thousands of miles across the earth to some other poor saps country and kill people because they happen to not want you there as long as you don't tape it.

 

You never asked about the validity of war did you?

These guys are fighting a war - wether you agree with it or not - and are trained to kill - whether you agree with it or not. They are follwing orders.

So, if they kill a person who is going to kil them ... in the name of war (be it in an army or a paramilitary organsition or an insurgent) then that the rules of combat.

But videoing it is not - done most likely for some ****ed up version of pride or for laughs .

There's also a good few of the "rebels" in Syria burning captives to death, cutting the heads off captives, throwing civil servants off buildings, summary executions ....... Etc etc
