I agree with you - there is a current multi-million pound advertising campaign targeting young bored men who seem to have little life experience but working in 'check outs'. So you train them, give them weapons, then send them into a foreign country expecting them to represent their country with distinction (the people you have just plucked from Tesco) - and then, of course, you blame these young men (who weren't deemed capable to do mid-level civilian jobs) when they come up short in a highly pressured armed conflict.
What was the situation though, nobody knows. They would not have arrested them for killing in combat. Has to be something else, something more gruesome than the ordinary. Maybe cutting the throat of a captive or something
My best guess is they 'shot to kill' when the combatant was no longer capable of attacking them back.

If Afghanistan were genuinely a battlefield for liberating Western forces to remove all tyranny and kill only the oppressors from Taliban, Al Qaeda and the likes, fair enough. But it's a war funded by tax theft. It's a war where the ultimate aim is merely to replace one dickish government with another one, albeit one elected by the mob 'democratically', with a strong police and army which will ensure the enslavement of Afghanistan's population for generations to come. Where opium poppy fields are guarded by Western troops, despite their own governments' wars of a different nature - on drugs. And it's a war where, as per usual, the innocent corpse count is far higher than the zero it should be at. Politicians don't deserve respect for starting it. Generals don't deserve respect for conducting it. Troops don't deserve respect for blindly following orders to perpetrate evil. And before people say I should say that in Camp Bastion or should go there myself, remind yourself not to be so thick as to pursue that stupid line of argument.

Throughout history no foreign **** has ever won a war in Afghanistan and that won't change now. Eventually the West will pull out defeated, although it will be wrapped up by the politicians as some sort of victory. The only good thing to come out of this will be a load of films about the brave Yanks ala Vietnam. Plattoon 2 should be worth a watch as should Apocolapse Now
