He's our best chance of winning a cup, & that's what I want the most. To win a cup during my time on this planet. I won't remember league positions.
Just wanted to say glad you all enjoyed the piece lads. We decided to do it just to have a look at whether or not what we expected when MON got the job had come to pass, and I think it's fair to say it probably has. That said, in no way do I see that as a negative (something we at RR seem to be getting levelled at us this week). Under MON we finally have a side that can actually defend. If there are any negatives, it's that the front four aren't clicking yet, but I firmly believe that'll happen in the very near future. Still think MON is far and away the man for the job and, as someone has said, offers us the best chance of winning a trophy in my lifetime.
Unquestionably MON is the man for the job, we do want to play more expansive stuff, but maybe that will happen when the top 4 hit form, as mentioned. We tactically lack any form of plan B right now, and certainly the players on the bench don't have enough about them to shake it up when called upon, maybe Bardo's return , releasing Gardner as a midfield option, is the answer, as has been widely discussed, more important for me would be the removal of McLean for a few weeks, with Johnson going left & Seb returning to his favoured RM on a permanent basis. There is no question that a ball retaining CM with an eye for a pass & ideally a shot is what we need now in January. We've got plenty more to give, and I'm sure we'll see it soon, hopefully next week!
As has been said by Cest 0- the Martin O'Neill detractors need to ask themselves "Who would I prefer?" - Ancelotti (realistically)Hughes?? Solksjaer? POK so there were others available but how many with a proven success record in England? If we sack O'Neill (which a few appear to want) then who do we take on? Relistically speaking - O'Neill has made us difficult to beat (Remember that City struggled to score from open play - and only scored from 2 direct free-kicks - nothing from corners or anywhere else - 3-0 may have been deserved but we are definitely difficult to score against. Being difficult to beat is the first part of the jigsaw and this is the best place to start as it's very difficult to put all the pieces of a jigsaw together at once - when we have our fuull team firing I believe there will be a lot of humble pie to be eaten by the detractors
The game I watched, we could have just as easily lost 5 or 6-0. That aside, I don't think we've seen MON's chosen ones as of yet.
If MoN was to be pushed out by a mindless minority, then absolutely it would spell the end of my going to games as well. If he is given the support and time but still does not improve us in say 3 or 4 years, then I'd accept a change but if he was forced out in the next 12 to 18 months whilst trying improve us, then I would walk away and become an armchair/pub only watching supporter. This bloke is our Brian Clough; our Shankly; our Bill Nicholson but as with all of them, Rome wasn't built in 10 months. Anyone who isn't giving MoN full support right now does not have the good fortunes of SAFC at heart imo. Granted we can moan on if things are not as good as we ALL want but surely, he offers the best hope for long term success than anyone else has in the last 40 or 50 years.
