Actually, I believe if you're attracted to people in their teens, you're called an emphophile or something.

Padepohiles are attracted to pre-pubescent kids. Ones that look child like are generally their targets.

I know this because I typed in a comment on a "to catch a predator" video, and called a man who had sex with a 15 year old a filthy ****.

Someone responded to my comment, and he told me I was misinformed, and I looked it up and he was correct.

However, we have consent laws for a reason, and that's because we believe those under the age of consent aren't ready for sex.

If you're attracted to a certain 15 year old that may look older or have something about them that's attractive, then I don't really think you're that much of a weirdo, but you still shouldn#t have sex with them.

There's a difference between being attracted to a 14/15 year old, and being attracted to a 6 year old.

 

I think the point myself and Partridge are trying to make, is not that it IS acceptable to have sexual relations with girls aged 13-16, its that it WAS not frowned upon in the 60's to 80's the way it is now. As I say there have been many many others. The attitude at the time was different. To any of us now with what we know about abuse etc, its completely and utterly unacceptable that David Bowie and his wife took the virginity of a 13 yr old. She was a groupie they took advantage of. However the uncomfortable reality is that back then they barely blinked an eyelid.

So whilst you may not like that people flaunted the law in this manner Nedders, the cold hard facts are that they did and its not horse doodoo at all. The point is not when the law was created, its how it has been enforced at any given time. Clearly we had failings in this area.

The world has of course moved on for the better in some ways (not so much in others!). I agree wholeheartedly that we should look into it and ensure that any lessons that can be learnt are, and check that our current laws/methods would have prevented this kind of abuse from taking place.

 

I agree. It's not acceptable and not right, but I don't necessarily think anyone can claim everyone who had sex with a 13 year old, back then, was a bad person.

 

Interesting points lads, the times have changed and everything is more and more under the microscope nowadays.

One thing that has not changed though, and never will is that it has always been wrong in every conceivable way to force yourself onto another person. There are plenty of cases of this coming up against Jimmy and that kind of accusation, if substantially evidenced makes Jimmy a sick, horrible ****.

 

Agreed. I just wish they'd wait to publish a story, until investigations are completed!

 

Saville should not have statues of himself taken down or lose his knighthood until there's an investigation!

 

When I first started seeing my lass she was 15 and I was 18! Think if a situation arose like that now there'd be eyebrows raised, wasn't much of a big deal at the time like. I think the term "age is just a number" really is true, as one 15 year old can be a lot more grown up than another. That said, it's different when it's a 50 year old man and this Jimmy Saville stuff is bang out of order imo, whether he forced himself on them or not.

 

Agreed, however as far as the statues go a vandal is likely to damage it because of the allegations going around.

 

Don't be daft. You know I'm not saying that. I'm saying that we're looking at some things which happened during the 60's using the attitudes and social values that we hold today. I'm conscious that many posters here will be in their late teens twenties and have no idea what was allowed to go on in the 60's and 70s. When my missus started work in the late 70's she remembers being in an environment where all the managers were men, and being routinely groped or pinched by sad bastards in the lift. Most women just had to put up with this. Reporting such things was a waste of time as she'd be told to run along and stop telling tales.

I'm not saying these were the good old days, far from it, I'm saying this is the way it was. Many blokes of the times were potential Jimmy Savile's, but limited their arse pinching to vulnerable girls over 16.

Quite so young Pouch. There's also the story John Peel once told of his early days in the USA when he'd be overwhelmed with groupies "I didn't stop to ask them for their birth certificates". My guess is that, if he were telling the same story today, he might just leave that bit out.

 

I don't think many people would be that shocked. You weren't a 60 year old sweaty old bloke.

But it's just people assume that bf + gf = sex.

I personally think an 18 year old getting jailed for having sex with a 15 year old would be ridiculous like, but that's just me.
