Big interview (I think in the Weekender) and he thinks Peddlers Cross could face Big Bucks and it'll be the first proper horses Bucks has raced against for sometime. Peddlers back over hurdles and looks like a step up in trip will suit. Cinders And Ashes has grown during the summer and the Champion Hurdle is the aim, and they fancy him. Overturn going chasing, schooled well and Arkle will be his aim.
Three interesting horses Wuby but can't have them for the big races. 1 - Will not be placed 2 - Will not be placed 3 Will not be placed
I really can’t see why they are attempting to transform Overturn into a novice chaser. The old boy is almost 9 and I’m a firm believer in the adage that ‘you can’t teach an old dog new tricks’. He’s way beyond the age when you should be putting a horse over fences for the first time and it is clearly an afterthought rather than some long-term structured plan. Overturn has been a grand servant to the McCain’s both over hurdles and on the Flat and in those spheres, in my view, he should remain. In contrast though I really rate Cinders and Ashes and see him as the main threat to the forum’s favourite trainer, Mr Henderson, reclaiming the Champion Hurdle.
I wouldn't be touching Peddler's Cross with a barge pole, and I say that as a big fan of the horse as you well know. He seems to have taken the 'up to 3m' route very quickly. He was a close 2nd in the Champion Hurdle to the supposed best hurdler since Istabraq only the season before last. Why now so quick to take the up in trip route? Is Cinders And Ashes a better candidate? Either way, I'd be worried. Overturn might take to fences but he is a very long way from your typical Arkle candidate.
I'd just like to say what a fine trainer McCain is. He has taken his old man's stable to a totally different level. I feel he can only get better.
