He's having another course of injections as a last ditch attempt to avoid him needing surgery and missing the entire season. Dudgeon's also having injections rather than surgery. http://www.thisishullandeastriding.co.uk/story-17060769-detail/story.html?
I hope this is just not a patch up, and finally surgery will be the outcome. But I guess they seem to be avoiding surgery if at all possible.
Fingers crossed. Fryatt's undoubtedly our most important forward and to lose him for the season would be a massive blow.
We seem to have done quite well without him - let's face it he was available and playing last season but provided very little in these months.
Im a big fan of Fryatts but can't see him replacing Simpson the form he's currently in and not sure he's pacey enough to play alongside Aluko. Certainly need him in back in the squad though in a long gruelling season.
I suppose it's worth a try while we're doing ok and are not desperate for him to be up and running asap. We can 'ease him back' and then if it doesnt work put him in for surgery in the spring so he has the closed season to recover.
While wer're doing 'ok' sure.... he doesn't seem such a big loss. But at some point in the season the goals will dry up and we'll need him. He hit 17 for us last season. I didn't see anyone in the forward camp come close to that!
Well yeah, that's the point. We dont need to rush him and he can - fingers crossed - be ready for when the goals do dry up and injuries and suspensions kick in. If we go with surgery he's out all season whereas through this method he can maybe play 2 or 3 games on the spin here and there rather than 25 on the trot.
I'm no physio, but didn't he break down after his last series of injections? I fear that we may be prolonging the inevitable, and by delaying the op we may miss him for part of next season?
Matty has more guile than any of the other strikers.....plus he ties defenders in knots....we need him back if we want top 6!
I agree, I can't believe some people on here don't see how much he contributes to the team, on top of all the goals he scores.
Didn't we do something similar with Stephen Hunt (and possibly ***an and Garcia)? I don't think the injections are a long term solution, they just delay the need for surgery until there's no other option. The problem of course is that the injury, like Matty's, can flare up at any moment.
Maybe if he has the op now and get's fully fit he may stop scuffing his shots and would hit the corner of the net?
I think it's because he can't kick a ball properly And of course, allegedly he enjoys his sausage bacon and egg.
Why are people so convinced that our attack which is working well is definitely going to fall apart at some point? I realise it'd be naiive to assume it'll work well all season, but I've seen a few people say things to this effect lately and it seems unnecessarily negative. As I'm one of his biggest critics I should probably respond to that. I agree that he ties defenders in knots as the poster above said, and I agree that his contribution in between midfield and attack is great. It's only really his shooting that I don't rate. But Aluko and Simpson are both very good on the ball and linking up play too like Fryatt is, so it's not like we lack anything in attack with him missing. Considering all the goals we're scoring, that's pretty obvious. Fryatt would be nice to have back fit to bulk up the squad and give us more decent strikers to play with, but I don't think he's the talisman some make out.
My old man has the same injury and having injections till surgery. He says these injections are nothing but trouble.. as u cant feel the pain so run about causing more damage in the long run(he is 62 a may add though).
I must count as one of the critics as I have been consistent for some time now, although not in a heavily critical manner. I thought we should have sold him in the last January window - I still do. I have never slagged the lad, but I do believe his quality of finish leaves a lot to be desired - that is when he actually finishes! Time and again we saw him fluff sitters that you would expect a good striker to make; his inconsistency was the most consistent thing about him! Yes he was played in a lone role, but even he shared my disappointment in his overall season. A striker scores goals and when a striker has the type of assist he experienced that striker should be posting his name in big bright lights - he failed to do that. I have no doubt folk will come back with the goals he scored, but many where poor quality and from the spot (how many penalties he scored I admit I can't recall!) â compare them to this seasonâs goal tally from a number of different players. Matty is a decent guy who we should have sold when we could have got something worthwhile for him.
