On Oct 9th 1988 The North East lost perhaps its most famous and well-loved footballer when John Edward Thompson Milburn passed away at home in Ashington. He was 64. Even the younger fans who weren't around at the time of Wor Jackie will have heard of his exploits and what a perfect gentleman he was on and off the field. He often went to play while still getting changed from his pit clothes after doing a Saturday morning shift. A 100% gentleman who always gave 100% on the field and was looked up to by all that knew him and adored by all that saw him play. For those of you that don't already know, Jackies sister is the mother of Bobby and Jackie Charlton.
