http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19869286 The Trotters board were obviously not impressed that an immediate return to the top flight wasn't looking likely just 10 games in to the new campaign.
its a tricky one. 10 games is not much and he is highly rated, but i'm not sure why he is so highly rated by some. i never particularly thought he was a great manager, even when he was being praised to the hilt, and you can't really argue with the results which overall have been fairly poor for more than a year, so probably the right decision in the end, all things considered. i seem to remember arsenal fans clamouring for him to replace wenger a couple of years ago! hilarious.
There's way too much pressure on managers of recently relegated clubs at the moment. Didn't Terry Connor get sacked at the last season? This pressure is also shown by fans of the bottom 5 or 6 of the Premier League already wanting their manager As for Coyle, it's a shame. He handled the Muamba situation brilliantly and he has a good character.
No, I have never really been that impressed with what he has done although he did keep an unfashionable club in the PL for a few years so must have been doing something right at some stage.
as wonky points out though, he was excellent during the muamba situation, handled it brilliantly, so it is a shame to see one of the 'good guys' lose his job, but as i say, i think this was inevitable. results have been poor for at least 18 months. even when he was getting the plaudits, i got the sense he received them more because he'd transformed the style of bolton more than anything. they went from long ball to neat and tidy and were much better on the eye. i think that's why he received the praise. results were always 'iffy'.
I think his biggest error was in leaving Burnley, who had inflated his status as a talented, Scottish manager, for what he perceived was a bigger club! Now where have I seen that sort of thing recently?
Don't understand why they sack a bloke when the transfer window is closed and then expect a completely different guy to work wonders with what is obviously a shell shocked squad. And there will be a queue of guys who will be saying "not given enough time" and applying for the said same job. Football. Surprised Shakespeare didn't write about it.
His results were actually quite good during 2010(ish) if I remember rightly - Elmander was a key player who scored a few and when he left they were always going to struggle for goals. From what I remember he had a bit of a squad clearout due to finances and never really got them in a winning routine after that. As with a lot of the relegated clubs in history injuries and other external influences were against them so it's no surprise he has gone but I can't help feeling that he is actually a very good manager and will go on and prove that to be the case
pretty sure they were iffy. only finished 14th in his first full season and had a bad run at the end of his first half season, then relegation of course. as i say, i think it was the style of football which earned plaudits as opposed to actual results. they had some very good players too, but many were only loans like wilshere and sturridge. certainly an overrated manager, whose reputation outshines his actual ability, but i think he'll be back in football sooner rather than later and i wouldn't be surprised to see him at the portaloo.
Would you want Coyle to replace Jewell Warky? I actually thought he was a good manager at Burnley but struggled to bring the right players in at Bolton
coyles move to bolton did produce one of the funniest banners at a football game by the burnley fans ... "owen coyle - he's not the Messiah, he's a very naughty boy"
Looking at him, I think he got his teeth from the same mail order dentist as Warnock, too long and too white....
Oddly, that was exactly the same thought that came into my head when I read about his dismissal. You can't have it both ways, either he was a good manager when they nicked him of Burnley or he wasn't.He won't have changed.I even saw Roy Keane mentioned as a replacement.Frying pans and fires come to mind.
I don't understand why clubs do this. Sack him after the season by all means but why let him spend the pre-season budget, bring in the types of players he wants only to sack him in October, meaning Keane, Davies or whoever picks up a squad of players they might not fancy with no ability to change anything until a small window halfway through the season?
Like Blackburn Rovers,Kean takes 14 points from seven games and they sack him.His replcement takes 2 points from 3.
The trouble is that boards want to appear to be proactive and dela with problems quickly. Bolton may struggle and not get into the playoffs and they can say well at least we changed the mamanger and tried sometihng but if it comes off and his replacement takes them up they are geniuses. Sometimes it takes courage to do nothing and stand by your guns. Completely agree with previous posters about the timing - why sack the manager who probably has an excellent rapport with the squad of players he has brought in and replace him with someone who cannot change the squad and could alienate the existing squad who are disgruntled at the loss of the manager. By all means if it is still going badly in December then get the P45 and cheque book out and give the new man a shot but otherwise it is just reorganising the deck chair on the Titanic.
So now we get the merry go round of previously sacked managers from other clubs applying for his job, Ince McCarthy, etc etc, all of whom have failed at other clubs. It could only happen in football. Ok lets have a look at your CV, been sacked 5 times for getting relegated, but spent millions doing it....can you start on Monday?
Who now says he is interested in becoming England manager. And now Eddie Howe has left Burnley to go back to Bournemouth! Owen Coyle back to Burnley then?
