    Erm.....no he hasn't.

He has occasionally played at left back and in midfield, but he was mainly a centre back for Man United reserves, he was a centre back at Carlisle, he was a centre back at Peterborough and we brought him in as a centre back. I'm pretty sure Chester is not being planned as our left back for next season.

Where did you get that from?

I prefer Chester at CB to Hobbs because of his reading of the game, if Ayala went in for a 50-50 and came out of place, you could count on Chester to be there to cover whilst Hobbs wouldn't see it until it happened and having to make a risky last ditch tackle or ride his luck and let the striker **** up.

I don't think Chester is a full back. He's good on the ball but doesn't think like a full back, he doesn't seem to link play with the winger and doesn't make many forward runs and hug the touch line. Also he isn't left-footed so when running towards the line, he has to turn back to goal to get an accurate pass (It sometimes works with wingers that cut inside alot, but not full backs).

He is much more at home in a central role.

im sure i read somewhere Chester mainly played as a LB for some club?... i guess im wrong.

its odd that AP has confirmed we're in for both Ayala & Hobbs (maybe gerrard too). if we sign them both, where does that leave chester ? i VERY much doubt Hobbs or Ayala will sit on the bench. and we've already seen what happened once Hobbs came here on loan... Chester was played out of position and put in midfield. unless he's going to rotate often ?

I understand we are getting a Liverpool youth, CB I think and its not Ayala....not usre if this is a loan or a buy but if he is anything as good as Ayala then we will be doing well again.

Buy Ayala and take another loan from Liverpool..might be a deal we are up for and both will benefit.

Watch this space, next season we could have a really class team and attack the top 2 spots or play offs at least.

I'm nervous about Chester having been forced out to accommodate Hobbs, it suggests that Pearson doesn't think that Chester is first choice centre back material, which is a shame, as I think Chester and Gerrard have been our best centre back pairing for a while.

hmm, could be that young LB that came on for them against Arsenal.

    Jack Robinson http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/team/first-team/player/49-jack-robinson

funny this too.. "Jack Robinson became Liverpool's youngest ever player when he came on against Hull City in the final game of 2009-10 aged 16 years and 250 days."

there's no question we'll be aiming for automatic promotion next season. if we fall short of that we'll at least be in the play-off's.

That'd mean dropping either Evans or Danns (supposing we sign him) to the bench or moving them to an alien position. I don't really like Chester at CM, he seems to get lost in the middle and put too much weight on Evans' shoulders meaning he can't do what he wants as much. He is good on the ball FOR A CENTRE BACK but for a CM when he has to give quick passes in tight spaces he makes to many misplaced passes. But at CB he has more time and can pick out great passes.

If we have Ayala, Chester & Hobbs all in the building for next season competing for CB positions then we should all be delighted. Chester can also be used as a holding midfielder if needed, and can cover full-back in emergencies.

true Black&Amber, that's possible.. its just a shame if Chester isn't guaranteed one of the CB spots as he's a class act.

I posted the other day that a Liverpool fan had said that we were getting 20 year old centre back Steve Irwin from them:

Though apparently he wants to play central midfield.

I am worried too. Chester is a very good centre back, not the biggest but he's clever and good in the tackle. In Hobbs we've just got a classic "big guy" defender who'll win everything in the air but may get caught out for a lack of pace or intelligence. I'd much rather see a Ayala - Chester or Gerrard - Chester pairing.

Think we must have a good chance since Sven has shown no confidence in him by loaning him out.

I think he has played excellent for us. We have been spoilt this season for CB's having Ayala, Gerrard, Chester & Hobbs - Well done Nigel Pearson (and your scouts!)

Got to say though, Hobbs is the worst out of a very good four.

It could also be Steve Irwin who is obviously being touted for a loan out.
