Nelsen: QPR players let down Hughes October 8, 2012 EmailPrintBy David Instone Ryan Nelsen has claimed that 'every QPR player' has failed under-pressure manager Mark Hughes at some point in the club's desperate 2012-13 season. The QPR defender's position remains a subject of scrutiny as last season's final-day escapologists lurch towards another battle for Premier League survival after pocketing only two points from their first seven games. "We know each and every one of us have got to be a lot better," Nelsen said. "We're letting the manager down here. "If you don't win games, that's the pressure that managers and players are under. We just have to win matches. I think every player has let the manager down at some stage this season. It's not good enough." Rangers were in big trouble from early on at The Hawthorns on Saturday, conceding two goals in the first 22 minutes through poor defending and coming up short despite their subsequent improvement. Having not won on their travels since November, a woeful away record is at the root of QPR's troubles and they will spend the international break licking their wounds. "It doesn't matter how good our second half was, we conceded two very soft goals at the start," Nelsen added. "It took us until the second half to play to our potential. In saying that, we still conceded. "We're leaving ourselves too much to do. It gives us a mountain to climb. Teams aren't really earning their goals against us. We have to remedy that and, as soon as we do, it'll be a lot easier to win games. "We've got players playing out of position and coming back from injuries, so I don't think we've had a settled back four. But we have to do better. "We've got to live up to the expectations. It's our livelihoods. We have to win games. It takes time to gel and injuries to players in key positions haven't helped. At least it's happening now. There's a long way to go yet." Another stunning finish by Adel Taarabt and a first goal for the club by Esteban Granero provided rare bright spots for the basement side and Nelsen complimented singled out Taarabt as a pivotal to helping QPR revive their season. "Adel is very easy on the eye. He can create stuff out of nothing," he said. "He has those flashes of brilliance which no-one else has. It's consistency with him. Hopefully he can string out some performances week in, week out. Then he'll be a valuable asset."
Ain't that the truth. I'm afraid Anton has to take it on the chin for WBA as second goal was just incompetent. I am hoping it will spur him to a MOTM performance against Everton contributing to a QPR win!

The goals we have let in recently have been the result of very poor defending, not tactical ineptitude. Some very experienced defenders, albeit with a couple playing out of position, are responsible. They can all do much better as we saw against Chelsea. Good stuff Nelsen.
The tactical ineptitude is allowing the back 4 to be so exposed in the first place. The first half against West Ham showed that in all it's horrible glory.
