Well, managed the third, that's about all though! If the second had not hung badly right in the closing stages he must have won it? Great piece of riding by Peslier, would not accept defeat..............
That just about sums it up TopClass, after being spoilt rotten a couple of times in the last few years with Sea the Stars and Frankel this years crop are truely awful. Next years big races will be there for the taking if a good 3 year old comes along. I would love to have seen Snow Fairy in there today personally but not to be.
The way Orfevre cruised up to take the lead from where he was was incredible. He is some beast. But again the rhythm of French racing is so weird. Solemia gets back up after being swamped, and Haya Landa stays on after being in the van while horses like Great Heavens and Camelot and Saonois can't go on at all. Maybe it's the going. Yellow and Green may have got third with earlier luck but feel gutted Orfevre didnt take that to be honest. Wonder what the noise was like in wherever they watch racing in Japan. Screaming silence.
Winner seems to have run most of her races on soft or very soft ground and won on it too. Great ride by Peslier.
Unlucky Joe. Thought he had come to murder the field. When he learns to behave himself and run in straight lines he could be unbeatable. In my opinion he was undoubtedly the best horse in the race.
Should have followed my grandson at Longchamp. He picks 2 in each race. Race 1. Darjani 3rd 63/10 Race 2. Whizz Kid W 83/10, Mayson 2nd 2/1 Race 3. Silasol W 133/10 Race 4. Olympic Glory W 6/5F Race 5. Giofra 3rd 48/10 Race 6. Solemia W 41/1
The great thing about a **** Arc like this though is that there are some big names who could consider a crack at the Champion Stakes now. Nathaniel looks set to take on Frankel before both retire to stud. Camelot might run again- depends on how they feel now they have been exposed as a hype machine. How ****ing stupid do you feel for not running Imperial Monarch, Aiden? Delighted those Coolmore breeding puppets have had this whole Camelot shenanigans exposed. Nice horse but every single start he has had no opposition. People were frothing over a Racing Post Trophy victory against the mighty Fencing and the brilliant Learn (), a Guineas that has had more knocks than Michael Owen's hamstring, and a Derby where he beat his pacemaker and Main Sequence. So many nonsensical decisions based on the owners. Where do they go now? Do they return him as a 4 year old?
gutted man, on at 16s too, never even heard of the winner in my life. Told yous Great Heavens wouldnt be in the first 5, cant believe the money that came for her.
Cant see it, wouldnt get close to Frankel anyway, but I said a while ago and I stand by it, he has the second best engine in the world.
Correct...how NOT to campaign your horses. O'Brien you are a joke. The money men run the show and come first...the horses are a distance behind.
I think the point still stands though, surely? I know you like AOB RV and he's a brilliant trainer. What I don't like is the politics that goes on.
best thing about the arc meet,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Glee places in the last GOOD THINGS TO COME FROM THIS JUMP JOCK TURNED FLAT dedicated jockey who trys his best but always has the horses interest at heart, hope he gets great rides from the southern trainers and Mark Johno nest year
Soumillon summarised the Japanese disappointment when he said: "It's sad because he's got huge potential, but I've got no regrets. Once I had the lead, no-one could have imagined that we'd be beaten. Fifty metres from the line, I saw I'd have difficulty getting him going again. "He has what it takes to win the Arc, he's the best horse I've ever ridden. I hope he'll run against Frankel in the Champion Stakes, or else in the Japan Cup." Bit of a statement that, better than Zarkava and Dalakhani?
Bugger me - that is a statement. It would be fantastic if he lined up for the Champion Stakes, it really is shaping to be a fantastic race even without him. Orfevre's certainly good entertainment value. Solemia does kind of throw the result into disrepute though, she can't be that good...? Better judges than me think Orfevre's a super super superstar, so I'll go with that. In other news, terrible day at the office for me - at least I did say I wasn't betting on any of my 5 (!) loosing picks!
So which would you back if Orfevre comes over to take on Frankel. Amanda has already "put her money" on Orfevre in the belief that he is probably the only horse with the engine to keep with Frankel. This horse does not like being in front for too long, something he wouldn't need to worry about against Frankel, but might just out-battle him on the line. She took a liking to that "little ****" in one of his previous races and is now really taken with him but hoping it doesn't happen, being an out and out Frankel fan. What do you reckon? Can Frankel be beaten?
