Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill is eager to deal in James McFadden.

O’Neill is keen to sign the 29-year-old after a two-week trial but with his agent in America, the matter is dragging on.

“I think I am going to speak to his agent and hoping we can come up with something. It is encouraging,” he said.

“He (McFadden)’s had Premier League experience. There was a period where he was doing very well, and he did well against us for Everton last season.

“If he gets properly fit he can help us. I think it will be good for him. I would look to do it until the end of the season.”

well after the City showing we do need something else in midfield a plan B never hurts, And it would give McClean a chance
    to reflect.

McClean needs a spell coming off the bench as an impact sub. I would start him against Newcastle though for his workrate and tracking back.

Tracking back was sadly lacking yesterday. I honestly think this kid believes his own hype. Needs to get his head down!

McClean isn't all that, very poor yesterday and although the full team was poor, he really did look like a lost boy. Drop him

McFadden is one of the most inconsistent players I have ever seen.

But as has been said may just be the rocket up the arse McC needs.
