Not making excuses, you cant be blind to our impressive performance in the first half. I dont think it was so much a case of sitting back in the second half, Cardiff were playing better and controlling a tiring midfield that had been controlled by our 5 (or three, depending on how you want to class murphy and JET and Martin. In fact Sky had us as 442). His substitutions didnt have the required affect yet even with an improving cardiff it was still defensive mistakes -that i agree should be being coached out - that cost us the game and we were still getting our chances. I have said before even before the season started another manager could well do better with this squad, and since the Charlton result i do think a change is needed because he appears unable to coach out mistakes and/or instill confidence. I'm just still able to see good performances when they exist.
Carlos Edwards was without doubt our man of the match! Loach was poor again and so was Cresswell, Martin was in and out and Murphy was ineffectual. We do have a good team somewhere waiting to get out but Paul Jewell is incapable of finding the right combination. A change is desperately needed. I mean 4-5-1 at home FFS!
We're at the ten game mark now and four points from safety. How long will it be allowed to continue like this?
Agree Edwards was Man of the match, will be very interesting to see the effect of Hewitt getting fit. Like many id hope to see Edwards back as a winger with Hewitt behind him. I would set up some thing like (Apologies for initials, better way to show my formation) -------SL------- EH--LC--DH--AC ----RW--LH----- CE-----------DM -----JET-------- ------DJC------- Also agree Cresswell disappointing today Can't be too critical of Loach though, was solely to blame for the goals, but before then he had been relatively solid if not outstanding.
Mistakes by keepers 9/10 times result in goals. He was to blame, of course he was. If it wasnt for his mistakes we would have won (presumption i know but the 2 cardiff goals were his errors) but over all it was far from an awful performance. Edit: As 2 examples I point to the save early on from the corner, the strong parry from a blistering shot. Yes he wasnt outstanding, but it wasnt awful
I agree Mike but only 1 win in the last 9 home games and now 4 points adrift at the bottom come mid October isn't great reading is it? Who's head should be on the chopping block? Evans apparently has reassured Jewell tonight that his job is safe! I mean FFS what are they seeing that us poor fans aren't?
Watched the game in the pub, let me add my views into the equation. I'll start off with Jewell being sacked. He's just signed 3 players on loan Friday, which indicates to me the board still have some faith. He will have at least the first month to turn it around. So he will be in charge after the international break I'm afraid, otherwise the club wouldn't have allowed him to make the 3 signings. They would have sacked after the Cardiff loss, and allowed the new manager to sign a few on loan. Anyway the game ( Watched without sound ) ! so let me give my opinions. First of all the goals. DJ " Maradona " Campbell haha! How on earth was that goal allowed to stand!? Ridiculous refereeing! Loach - cheers then! Apparently been generally good, we all make mistakes. Ahhh Cresswell........ what the HELL were you doing for the 3rd? People saying " we should turn down £3.5 million " - are you on drugs!? I don't rate Cressy at all, he's at fault every game for countless crosses getting whipped in. I'm fed up of him being an absolute liability game after game. I'd like to see him at left wing, as he has energy but it's patently obvious he can't defend. Chopra - Seriously get yourself together, we need you! Sort it soon, or get rid. We're in a bit of a mess, and we can ill afford passengers. I thought Wellens and DJ played well! GREAT decision making by Jewell subbing these 2, though their not match fit. First half, I thought we looked surprisingly good! Bossed it without creating much, JET even ran and closed down at one point! haha. As soon as Loach messed up for 1-1, confidence quickly evaporated. Is Jewell likely to turn it around? Lets be honest, he isn't. It's inevitable he'll get the sack. I want the guy to succeed, and I do find him likable, however results speak for themselves. Are we making progress? NO. Are we going to come top half this season? NO. Is this yet another wasted season already after 9/10 whatever games played? YES. We do seem to have parallels with the Norwich relegation side.... playing well but not getting points, loans galore. I'm really frustrated as an Ipswich fan. I love continuity, and I hate to see a high turnover of managers. I'm so glad we actually give managers a chance, however Keane and Jewell haven't repaid the faith shown in both of them. Both were given chance after chance to turn it around, and both have miserably failed. We're in a relegation battle currently, and really do need points on the board rapidly! 4 points off safety at this moment in the season isn't good enough! Can we come up with a list of Jewell replacements? I think he'll be given another 4 games incharge, and I would say he needs 7/8 points from that to save his job. Who do we want in as new manager?
"What was Cresswell doing for their 3rd?" - err - they only scored 2 (easy mistake as we normally let in more than 2) Can we finish in the top 10?? - I would take 4th bottom right now New manager -Mick McCarthy. He's not everyone's cup of tea but he's available, has worked in football recently & (most importantly) knows how to organize a defence
fair summary Westlake, cant add much to or argue with that JWM - They are probably seeing the overall good performances. Just looking at today they probably saw the fact we outplayed the leading side and it was goalkeeping errors that cost us. What frustrates us as fans is, as you rightly point out, its the results and points tally that really count and the same pattern in the games suggests that despite being able to deliver good performances this current regime cant coach out costly individual errors that another manager might be able to.
Spot on Westy (surprisingly I agree with every word) and spot on Royston! I'm getting pissed tonight and **** the lot of them!
Edited, I meant 3rd goal of match! Yeah weird we agree Jonny! We both want whats best for the club, and I'm prepared to be patient, but it's inevitable Jewell WILL go. Any news on what the hell happened with N'daw people!? Apparently spotted in town with his kit!?
We all want what is best for the club Westy and its about time that we all showed solidarity in getting this useless **** out of our club! Mick (the god) Mills was absolutely spot on tonight and he said pretty much every thing you just did! You aren't Mick Mills are you?
haha. It's not going well is it. My friends are having such fun about our current predicament. How I wish it was 04/05 again. Miss them days, if only Kuqi hadn't got injured we'd have gone up! haha. Ifs and buts... it's such a sorry state of affairs at the minute.
Not sure what you are editing for westy you said THE 3rd goal not THEIR 3d goal...! jewell has twice dropped Ndaw when the previous game he has been arguably MOM or close to MOM....FFS this man is so ****ing out of touch it is unreal....I guess he has so many loan signings someone has to go....how about jewell..!
Not enough to dull the pain warky...! Bit of unrest in SBR lower at end of game tonight, a few arguments amongst fans, apparently a scuffle broke out in one section as well......just how much further has this club got to sink before Evans sorts it out...?
Where were the "JEWELL OUT" banners FFS? Were were the vocal protests? National TV and we ****ed it up all round!
Warky, there was some jewell out jewell out chants but they (town fans) just wont join in, I was shouting jewell out, tried to get people around me to join in and got into a discusion with a guy in front of me who basically did not agree.......here lies the problem to many Town fans still think this dinosaur should be given more time..........TO BLOODY MAKE SURE WE WILL GO DOWN THIS SEASON......I mean just how many games does it take to realise he is not going to turn things around...?
Hoppers you must have patience of a bloody saint having to put up with this ****e at every home game! Hats off to you because I admit I gave up after last season. As Town fans we don't really help ourselves do we!
