Positives today were Rose and O'Shea.

But surely it's time to re think what we are doing as far as formation and team selection. We have to get someone up along side Fletcher(I think we should start with Saha) and we have to take McClean out of the team.

In a post earlier this week, he was marked as 2 out of 10 for his premier league performances to date and he was no better than that today. I recall him giving the ball away in our box in the first half, nearly giving them a second goal and then it was him who did not track back(went to sleep) letting in Kolerov to cross the ball for the second goal. Attacking wise, I can't remember him doing anything.

As we are a team who will rely on the whole being more than than the sum of the parts, we cannot afford to carry passengers.

Jimmy Mac is being made a scapegoat. he hasn't been at his best but he hasn't been our worst player.

Disappointed with the performance today, could easily have been a hiding of 6 or 7.

Did we get Citeh on a good day or were we just poor? My opinion both. I thought we would make more of a game
of it as we normally do against them, just wasn't there today.

Hate to pick player's out but I thought both Sess and McClean along with Johnson were poor.

We need Bardsley asap, get Gardner back in midfield and look to drop McClean.

anyone saying maclean is being made a scapegoat, i point you towards the zabaleta chance in the first half, mignolet saved it and then rose (?) got the block in, the ball trickled to maclean and rather than thump it clear he tried to dribble in his own box, fell over and gave the ball back to city, who almost scored. he was shocking today.

the lad works hard, but he never passes, always tries to run and it just isn;t happening for him this season yet. i'm sure he'll come good again but he is just a one trick pony at present.

Monk, I was the one that rated him 2/10 in an earlier post> basically with McLean in the team we are playing with only 10 men each week. He has been woeful, why MON is keeping him in the team is beyond me, we have Saha, McFadden now and even Frasier (who is probably just as bad).
The Man City game won't help our confidence or improve our terrible form against the Skunks. Starting to lose interest if we are going to play so defensive and negative.

Then if that is your opinion, and its all about opinions, then who is your worst player so far this season.
On this one i have to agree with Monkmaster. Iv'e always thought O'Neil was a decent manager but he seems to lack a plan "B". We proved last season that if you fight fire with fire, you have a half decent chance of getting something out of the game.
This season so far we have been rather fortunate in some games, we've took the lead and then sat back and hoped we could hang and take all 3 points, and then conceded in the dying minutes. To do this is nothing more than what Bruce did, and we all know how that ended up.
McClean and Sess have yet to turn up this saeson. Hopefully when they decide to earn their fat wage packets, we may start to win a few games. I have no doubt i will have as many detractors as those who agree with me.
Like i said at the beginning, its all about opinions.

We had some good spells at the start of each half, but we have non-one who can put their foot on the ball, spread it around or have a go themselves. Until we do, we will never fully click as a team ESP when AJ, Sess and JMac are way off for and Catts keeps getting sent off. Mon needs to be looking out for this player for us as we don't have him in the squad. I just don't see any of Meyler, Jack, Larson, Gards or Vaughan stepping up to that level and with two of these in centre midfield, it probably makes us one of the weakest c.mids in the division.

What's the point of having 2 wingers and one striker against 4 defenders. Fair enough, both were poor today but even if they had blinders. it would and normally is a doddle for their defence. No midfielder capabale of a decent pass, no midfielder capable of getting forward, no midfielder capable of having a shot, no midfielder capable of scoring a goal.****e tactics.(again)

    Next game
    Mignolet
    Bardsley O'Shea, Cueller Rose
    Larrson Gardner Vaughan Johnson
    Sessegnon
    Fletcher

Subs Westwood Bramble Brown Meyler Saha McFadden & Whickham or Ji

Strong defence, a midfield that can hold a ball pass and shoot genuine goalscorer and strong subs bench. Nothing to worry about a win classy performance and all will be rosy again. Thats what I think but I am not Marty

Can I just say at no point am I saying Mcclean was to blame for our defeat. That is what a scapegoat is. I am however saying he was woeful today. Johnson was poor but apparently was very unwell. Sess did better.

However our attacking unit seem to be miles apart from each other and keeping the ball is a massive problem.

In today's game if Mcclean had the ball you knew it was going back to City! He needs to be replaced by someone who can keep the ball and bring him off the bench as an impact player.

Well it seems like most of us were watching the same game at least, lets hope the coaching staff were.

As for the next game, I think we have to put Saha on from the start, which will mean either playing Sess wide instead of McClean or we start him on the bench as well with Larson and Johnson wide, Gardner and Vaughan/Colback in the middle.

My worry is that we will just carry on regardless, play the same team and formation as we did today and therefore probably get hammered again.
