Defender Davide Santon, midfielders Jonas Gutierrez and Hatem Ben Arfa and striker Demba Ba were all rested for Thursday's 3-0 Europa League victory over Bordeaux, which saw full-back Danny Simpson return from a hamstring injury. Keeper Steve Harper will resume after taking over from Rob Elliot against the French side when he suffered a groin injury, with 19-year-old Jak Alnwick providing the back-up from the bench, but number one Tim Krul (elbow), defenders Fabricio Coloccini (hamstring) and Steven Taylor (calf) and utility man Ryan Taylor are still out. Player to Watch Demba Ba The Newcastle striker is in good form and will be looking to put Manchester Uniteds shaky defence to the sword. United will need to be wary of balls over the top to Ba who scored a brilliant volley last time out v Reading. Team News Manchester United Mancheester United could include Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs and Michael Carrick after the trip missed the Champions League win at Cluj. Carrick and Giggs were ill for Europe while Scholes was rested. Defender Jonny Evan is also in contention, but Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young, Chris Smalling, Nemanja Vidic and Phil Jones are all out. . Player to Watch Jonny Evans Jonny will need to be at his very best to contain Newcastles potent strike force. The defender was taken off midweek but should be fit to start and United will need him on form if they are to get anything from this match.
I reckon we'll score a few goals, trouble is I can see us conceding a couple as well. Im going to go with an optimistic 3-2 win for United.
Its going to be a very attacking game with the CB pairings for both sides. Perch and Williamson at the heart of our defence vs Rooney and RVP is a worry. Our CB's need to have a blinder against you lot for us to get anything out of this although I have a feeling Pard's is pulling a fast one saying Krul is out he was meant to be ready for the Reading game last week but might have been given an extra weeks rest to get ready for this game.
We've only lost once at home in 2012 btw, and that was to Man City. Please make sensible predictions. 4 goals?
Tricky fixture for United. If the magpies' frontline is on form, we will have trouble with our makeshift defence. Hope that Roon and RVP click and score more than they do. A draw could be a good result.
As in Newcastle United, the only one out of the two which actually represents some form of unification? Thanks Alan, hope you're right I'll give you more rep if it comes true!
but Manchester has never united apart from the riots . be a good game today lads, hope we all enjoy it, More so the geordies tho
We are talking football...On this board United can only mean one team and it is not in the North east ...
